Manchester United revamped their attacking line-up during the summer of 2025, and it seems the Reds are now looking for a similar makeover in their midfield before the new season starts.
Despite the uncertainty around United's managerial position, Casemiro's departure at the end of this season is the only certainty for the Red Devils for now, as the Brazilian announced his decision with a moving farewell message last month.
On the other hand, Manuel Ugarte, whom the club brought in as Casemiro's replacement, is also likely to leave at the end of this season, as he has failed to meet the board's expectations to date.
The United management would definitely wait before pursuing any of their transfer targets until they confirm their permanent manager, but it seems the club has been following a few highly rated midfielders well before Ruben Amorin's departure.
With the likes of Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, and Elliot Anderson already on United's radar, former Reds' striker Louis Saha has advised the club on going after either of two Premier League midfielders whom Saha thinks would be the perfect fit for the club.
Newcastle United's top performers, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, seem to have caught Saha's eyes as he praised the duo in his interview with AceOdds (h/t Mirror), saying, "United need aggressiveness and someone that will dictate the midfield. I see someone more like Tonali or Guimaraes, two midfield monsters.
"With players like [Kobbie] Mainoo, you need someone alongside him who has the experience and vision to manage the transition when Casemiro goes. You need that experience, directness, and decisiveness. It’ll be hard to replace."
The former United star also discussed a scenario where the Magpies' captain would form a fantastic partnership with Crystal Palace's Wharton if the Reds' succeed in completing both the transfers as he said, "If you bring in a young player, it's a disruption. It’s great for the future, but you need experience. If Casemiro goes, I think a combination of Wharton and Guimaraes would be great because Guimaraes is more of a captain."
As it seems United are already being linked with Tonali since the past few weeks but Guimaraes seems to be a new addition on the list for the Reds' management to think about as both of these players definitely has the experience to perform in the Premier League but as things stand, Man United fans will have wait to see any of these transfers rumours into reality before a permanent replacement for former manager Ruben Amorin is decided.
