Hollywood giant Lionsgate partners with Manchester United for a docuseries chronicling the club's century-long saga.

Manchester United's more than a century long story has been nothing less than a drama in itself.

Since the days of it's inception as Newton Heath LYR in 1878 founded by the railway workers which was renamed as Manchester United after the club was saved from bankruptcy by the industrial city's local businesses men in 1902 setting the tone for all the big milestones which the club has reached thus far.

Now, according to The Athletic (h/t Manchester Evening News), the famous Hollywood studio Lionsgate has decided to produce a series similar to 'The Crown', the popular dramatisation of Queen Elizabeth II.

Manchester United agree on multi-million dollar deal with Lionsgate

Lionsgate and United have reportedly agreed on a deal which would see the historic club being paid a sum of over £10 million following the film's sell to a streaming platform after it's production and the royalties will also be shared between the two parties.

This deal will be a significant boost for the club, which has seen dwindling revenue over the past couple of years, as it fell in the recently released Deloitte financial rankings.

Although the Reds have received a couple of other similar offers from Amazon Prime and Disney+, respectively, which never made it past the drawing board, the recent approach by Amazon was shrugged off by former manager Ruben Amorin, citing potential intrusion as a reason, as Prime proposed access to all areas, a documentary similar to one made with Manchester City.

As for Lionsgate, talks have advanced pretty smoothly so far, with the lifelong Man United fan Jed Mercurio included in the program. He is known for his work on the famous series Line of Duty and for his other projects as a Writer and Director.

The timeline on which the production house will work upon is yet to be declared but one thing is for sure that Lionsgate will never have any shortage of stories when it comes to United as the long list of historical events in the club includes the famous turnaround of Sir Matt Busby's side following the tragic Munich Air Disaster to the days of Sir Alex Ferguson's Class of '92 giving them a plethora of stories to choose from.
