Luke Shaw has shared the biggest reason Michael Carrick is succeeding since taking over as Manchester United manager.

Manchester United continue to rack up wins under Michael Carrick, and with each one, talk will grow of him being handed the job on a permanent basis. Right now, he is the interim head coach until the end of the season.

Carrick has managed to beat three of the traditional Big Six over the last four games. One could argue that Tottenham Hotspur have been poor for a long time and it was a matchup they were always likely to win. But then, Arsenal and Manchester City are the top two in the Premier League. There is no way those two victories can be discounted.

Incidentally, it was Fulham who have given Carrick's Manchester United the toughest time out of those four opponents.

So, why is Carrick succeeding at Manchester United while managers with much bigger reputations have failed in the past? Well, it might come down to his understanding of the club and man management.

According to talkSPORT, Luke Shaw said: "He's made lots of differences.

"But for me, the biggest one is he knows the club, and he knows exactly what's needed to win football matches, to make everyone happy and to enjoy what we're doing.

"He's, of course, won a lot when he was here as a player. So he understands the club, and I think that's the biggest thing for me.

"He knows how to get the best out of the players, and he's really doing that."

That might be the exact thing that worked well for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford as well. While his run might not have had the happiest ending, one could argue that he had the best run in the Manchester United hot seat since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.

We have seen Carrick achieve a decent bit of success in the past, during his three-year run with Middlesbrough. He took a team that was 21st in the Championship and finished 4th that very same season. The following year, he guided them to the semi-finals of the FA Cup. And he was eventually sacked after managing a 10th-place finish in his third season in charge of Boro. Overall, that has to be viewed as overdelivering though, which is exactly what he is doing at Manchester United as well.
