Manchester United's goalkeeper heads back to Turkey for €5 million, seeking to reignite his career after a challenging spell at Old Trafford.
Whether it be with Michael Carrick at the helm or someone else, there is no doubt that Manchester United is moving into a new era.
No more Ruben Amorim, no more rigid 3 at the back every game, no more Kobbie Mainoo being ostracised, no more Bruno Fernandes being played too deep, and so on and so forth.
Despite Carrick thus far getting much more out of this current group of players than Amorim did, it is clear that there will need to be some squad shuffling this summer. There will need to be incomings and outgoings.
Simply put, the squad planning over the years has been so poor. Even though United do have some very good players across the park, the squad is still filled with several players who are not good enough moving forward.
So, it will be interesting to see who leaves Old Trafford this summer. A number of players have already been linked with departures, including Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount.
Another player now linked with a move away is goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. Indeed, as Sports Witness is reporting, the goalkeeper is set to join Turkish side Besiktas this summer for 5 million Euros.
The goalkeeper joined United from Fenerbahce for a similar fee back in the summer of 2023, but has played just 19 times since then, and truth be told, he has not looked up to the job, particularly when it comes to commanding his area and being a physical presence.
If you compare his performances in that department to Senne Lammens against Everton on Monday evening, well, it's just simply night and day. It just hasn't worked out for Bayindir at Old Trafford.
A move to Besiktas would see the goalkeeper return to Turkey and to Istanbul, which may be the best for him to get his career back on track. Since moving to United, he has failed to establish himself as Turkey's number one goalkeeper - perhaps a move back to the Trendyol Super Lig could help him get the gloves back for his country.
We will see. Recouping the fee, or close to what they paid three years ago, feels like fairly good business from the club, considering his stocks have gone down since joining. Sometimes things just do not work out; there doesn't seem to be any bad blood or anything like that. He would go with everyone's best wishes.
