Antoine Semenyo is someone who had been linked with pretty much every top team in the Premier League this winter, including Manchester United, before completing a move to crosstown rivals Man City. With four goals and an assist in six appearances for Pep Guardiola's side, it is not hard to see why he was in such demand.
Manchester United did not end up signing somebody else in that position. They might look to strengthen on the flanks next summer though.
In fact, it looks like the club already have a highly-rated talent in their sights, but signing him will not be simple.
According to Manchester Evening News, Man United are interested in RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande. The club will try to sign a left-winger in the summer and he is a player they have monitored and someone who is of interest.
Several reports in Germany have suggested that RB Leipzig would look for a transfer fee in the region of €100 million to part ways with Diomande. It is likely that he will leave for lower than that.
That being said, there are two things that Man Utd will need to consider before making any serious push to sign Diomande.
The first is the competition. Several other top clubs are being linked with him as well, and winning the race for his signature will not be simple. Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and many more are said to be monitoring him.
The second is to consider how he would fit in the Premier League. There are plenty of 'superstars' we have seen make a move to England from Germany, only to struggle to adjust to the pace and physicality of the football.
Some names that come to mind immediately are Christopher Nkunku and Timo Werner, two brilliant players for RB Leipzig who struggled in the Premier League.
For Manchester United, Jadon Sancho would be a prime example. He looked like a world-beater at Borussia Dortmund but could not reach those levels, or get anywhere near them, after moving to England.
So, bringing in a 19-year-old Diomande for a huge transfer fee and asking him to be one of the main contributors for Manchester United from the get-go would be a big ask.
Then again, let's not question the talent of Diomande. He has scored 8 goals and provided 6 assists in 1431 minutes of action this season. That is extremely impressive from any winger, but especially a 19-year-old one with just 31 senior games of football under his belt.
