Leny Yoro was banned from driving for 6 months and fined £666 after being caught speeding. The 22-year-old player will also have to pay 120 pounds in costs and a 266-pound victim surcharge. Yoro did not appear in court, but his lawyer, Lisa Nevitt, explained that the Manchester United star "was in a hurry to take a friend to the train station" and also submitted an apology on his behalf.
Nevitt added: "He is not liable to a totting-up disqualification, but he understands that, due to the speed involved, it is very likely that the court will impose a disqualification rather than penalty points. Our client wishes to take this opportunity to apologize for the incident, which occurred when he was hurrying to take a friend to the train station.
Our client further states that he believes the speeding occurred at a point where the road was wide, and there was little chance of coming into contact with vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians."
Yoro has been identified as a key piece for United. Former Red Devils player Phil Jones said on the club's official website: "I think he has been really, really good. I like his characteristics as a player, as a center back, especially on the right side of a back three.
I think he has pace and athleticism, which I consider fundamental for a center back in today's Premier League. Technically, he is very good on the ball. In build-up play, he is very good and very reliable. He reads the game very well. He is strong in both boxes. So, yes, he is going to be an important player for Manchester United for many years."
Yoro returned to Manchester United's starting lineup on Monday against Everton, as Lisandro Martinez was unable to play due to injury. The Argentine has a minor calf injury and is expected to also miss United's next Premier League match against Crystal Palace, meaning Yoro could continue in the defense for the Eagles' visit.
