Manchester United have received a huge boost as one of their absentees will be available for selection for the Manchester derby.

Manchester United is currently going through a transition period as former manager Ruben Amorin was relieved of his duties within a week of 2026, presumably after falling out with the club management following a poor run of games, which altogether led to the premature termination of his contract with United.

Although Amorin's rigid strategies were a problem but one cannot turn a blind eye to the fact that the Reds have been facing a problem of first team players being absent through injuries and suspensions this season as their centre back pairing of Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire are still recovering from their injuries alongside youngster Kobbie Mainoo.

Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount, on the other hand, played their part during the Reds' last outing against Burnley after coming back from their recent injuries.

The AFCON has been another significant issue in United as of lately, as Bryan Mbuemo, Amad Diallo, and Noussair Mazraoui were all called by their respective national sides, but with Cameroon being knocked out of the tournament by Mazraoui's Morocco, Mbeumo is most likely to return to Manchester in the upcoming days, and according to GOAL, the 26-year-old would be available for selection against rivals Manchester City on January 17.

Mbuemo has been one of the most influential players for the Reds this season as he scored a total of seven goals and provided an assist in all competitions under Ruben Amorin this season, but as he returns from his national duty, Darren Fletcher would likely welcome him but it might be someone else when Diallo and Mazraoui return as United are likely to appoint a permanent replacement manager in the coming days.

With Bruno slowly coming back to full fitness, the Cameroonian's arrival would be a big boost for Fletcher or any other head coach who would be at the helm of United during the derby later this month.

United would possibly find a permanent replacement for Amorin within a couple of days following their FA Cup game against Brighton tomorrow, as the club is most unlikely to face Guardiola's City under Fletcher, who is yet to gain experience in the Premier League.
