Premier League and Ligue 1 giants battle for Leipzig's explosive teenage sensation, a breakout star commanding an eight-figure transfer fee.

Ruben Amorim recently said he prefers to keep his squad as it is, but in the offices, they may still be thinking about taking a different path. According to media reports, Manchester United's search for offensive reinforcements has involved it in a heated fight for RB Leipzig's young prospect, Yan Diomande.

Amorim's team was briefly linked with the signing of Antoine Semenyo. This was presented mainly as an opportunity, as the Ghanaian international was available for 65 million pounds ($87.5 million) in January. Manchester City appears to have won the bidding for Semenyo's signing, which has prompted United to focus its attention on other targets.

According to Sky Sports News, the search for a versatile winger has led United to focus on Diomande. The 19-year-old Ivorian international has been one of the surprise stars of the season and has become the spearhead of an inconsistent RB Leipzig. He has scored six goals and was the team's top scorer in the Bundesliga before his trip to the Africa Cup of Nations.

The same report states that Diomande is valued between 60 and 70 million euros, rather than the hefty 100 million being handled in other media. In any case, it would represent an exorbitant investment in a teenager with fewer than 30 first-team matches. Just six months ago, he was signed for 20 million euros.

However, United is not the only European giant considering such a large investment. Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also believed to be closely following the development of a player who has emerged from absolute anonymity over the past year.

RB Leipzig's sporting director, Marcel Schafer, described Diomande's qualities in a few words: "Young, eager to play and with great potential."

The forward, born in Abidjan, was formed in the American college soccer program, training at the DME Academy in Florida. It was not until March 2025 that Diomande, then 18 years old, made his full professional debut with Leganes, a declining La Liga team.

The versatile forward only played four minutes against Real Madrid last season and barely played 10 matches for his former team, which was in danger of relegation, before Leipzig took the risk with the 20 million euro payment.

However, during his 542 minutes of competition in La Liga, Diomande demonstrated the great dribbling ability that has flourished during his brief time in the Bundesliga.

"My style is explosive, fast, and physically strong," he noted in an interview with the German top flight. "I am fast, agile, and also a finisher. I know I'm not a perfect finisher yet, but I'm only 19. With time, I will achieve it and become a lightning-fast player in front of the goal."
