started life under new interim manager Michael Carrick with a statement, making a 2-0 win against their cross-town rivals, Manchester City, this weekend.
For a new manager to come in and manage his first game against Pep Guardiola's City is always a tough task with high chances of getting thrashed by the likes of Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, and Bernardo Silva, but Carrick took the challenge head-on and went on to win the game while keeping a clean sheet.
The United board's decision to sack Ruben Amorin at the start of the new year was seen as a reckless one by the fans, as they crashed out of the FA Cup third round against Brighton during Darren Fletcher's last of the two games in charge of the Reds.
Now that we are already midway through the winter transfer window, United have yet to take part in the proceedings, and according to transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano, the Man United management will hold an important meeting regarding their participation in the market.
In his recent YouTube video Romano said, "At the very beginning of this week, there will be an internal meeting at Manchester United, involving also the ideas of Michael Carrick on several situations.
"What they want to do on the market from now to the end of the January transfer window, to decide if they want to go for an opportunity or stay with this squad and invest in the summer, when they will have a permanent manager."
Alongside being linked with the likes of Ruben Neves and Elliot Anderson, players like Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee were expected to leave during the January transfer window, but all that changed with the sacking of Amorin, as Mainoo started two back-to-back games since the departure of the Portuguese manager.
As it seems Zirkzee's future at the club is yet to be decided, as Fabrizio explained in his report, saying, "In Italy, some clubs, Roma, Juventus are all waiting to see if Man United decide to open doors, for example, for Joshua Zirkzee. Maybe if they add one more player, they can give the green light to an exit."
With the transfer window scheduled to close on February 2, the Reds would need to come at a conclusion as soon as possible if they are to make any changes to the current squad but given the few number of games left to play this season, United would most likely want to bring in reinforcements in the summer after they decide on their manager for the future.
