Crystal Palace striker signals intent to leave, sparking interest from top clubs, including Manchester United.

Manchester United have yet to make the headlines in the ongoing winter transfer window, despite being linked with a number of moves recently.

The Reds' managerial problems, combined with the reduced number of games left to play, are being considered as a major barrier to the board's ambition to reinforce their squad mid-season.

With Michael Carrick signed as an interim manager, it would be only appropriate to wait until the summer transfer window before making any new signings, as United's permanent manager would likely be finalised by then. In the meantime, that surely won't stop the Reds' hunt for possible recruits for next season.

Man United brought in Bryan Mbuemo, Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha during the past summer in order to strengthen their attack as the supposedly 'bomb squad' members Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund failed to impress former manager Ruben Amorin although new recruit Sesko has only racked up five goals till now with three of them coming after the departure of Amorin.

Jean-Philippe Mateta Looking for an exit

This would likely force the management to find a competition for the 22-year-old striker before the next season starts, and Crystal Palace's Jean-Phillipe Mateta has been in contention for a move to Old Trafford under Amorin, and the experienced striker has recently shared his intentions of leaving Selhurst Park (h/t Manchester Evening News).

Palace's manager, Oliver Glasner, last week talked about his leading goal scorer, saying, "There will be a price where Crystal Palace say '18 months left in his contract, we do the deal if JP wants'," Glasner admitted. "If nobody pays this price, then JP will stay."

Mateta has been reluctant to take a stance on not renewing his contract at Palace, as he desires to play in the Champions League during his prime years, with suitors already lined up for his signature next season.

The 28-year-old has scored 46 goals in the Premier League so far during his time at the Selhurst-based club, attracting interest from clubs like Tottenham, Juventus, Aston Villa, and Man United.

With Villa's chances of finishing in the top four this season increasing every matchday, they have emerged as a serious candidate for the French striker following their recent interest in him, while the Reds are yet to make any significant move for Mateta up until now as they look to solve their managerial problems first.
