Bruno Fernandes again achieves a spectacular performance for Manchester United, this time against Aston Villa with two key assists for the team and for his personal record.

Bruno Fernandes arrived at the match against Villa needing just one assist to equal Beckham, but he went a step further and provided two. This raised his season tally to 16 assists in 27 Premier League games, a remarkable feat when compared to the 31 games the English legend played in the 1999/00 season.

The captain's vision made the difference in a high-stakes match, as he consistently found gaps in the defense. His ability to create high-value chances has now placed him at the top of the club's all-time single-season assists leaderboard.

In the 3-1 victory, the captain delivered a complete performance in midfield that laid the foundation for Manchester United's dominance. In addition to his two assists, he registered six key passes and created two big chances, maintaining an impressive passing accuracy of 87%. His involvement was not limited to the final third, as he recorded 71 touches and won the ball back on six occasions, demonstrating his defensive commitment.

Despite not scoring himself, his expected assists (xA) of 0.37 and his constant forward thrusts kept the visitors under relentless pressure for the full 90 minutes.

Looking at the broader context of the 2025/26 season, the midfielder has been the primary source of inspiration for the Red Devils. Before this match, he had already accumulated 14 assists and seven goals in the league. Adding his contributions in the win over Villa, his total now stands at 16 assists and seven goals in 27 games.

Not even a hamstring injury in December, which kept him off the pitch for three matches, could halt his run. His current form places him ahead of figures like Nani, who registered 14 assists in the 2010/11 season, and Antonio Valencia, who achieved 13.

The victory consolidates United in third place with 54 points, giving them a three-point advantage over Villa. With eight rounds remaining, the fight for the top four spots is intensifying. United faces a tough final stretch, including a trip to Chelsea and a hugely important home match against Liverpool in early May.

While Arsenal and Manchester City battle for the title, United must maintain consistency against teams like Bournemouth, Leeds, and Brentford. With their star in record-breaking form, the club appears well-positioned to return to European elite competition.
