Manchester United will be eyeing a new left-back for the summer transfer window, with Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly named as an option.

It is TIME to talk about Luke Shaw!

Manchester United have yet to finalise their summer transfer plans, but several positions are known issues in the squad, and they must be addressed no matter who is leading the club into the 2026/27 season.

The first, and most pressing, after the head coach search, is defensive midfield. Director of Football Jason Wilcox may have to find two new players for the engine room, as Casemiro has already confirmed he will be leaving, and Manuel Ugarte also seems destined for the exit door.

The next position of interest for United will be a left-winger. United appeared close to signing Antoine Semenyo from AFC Bournemouth during the summer transfer window, but the wide player chose blue over red and left Rúben Amorim without an attacking left-wing-back and now Michael Carrick without a natural left-winger.

Left-back also seems to be a position of need for United, especially if Tyrell Malacia is to move on at the end of the season, as all signs point towards him doing so. Harry Amass could've been another solution, but his injury struggles at Norwich City may have held him back, despite a brilliant six months at Sheffield Wednesday.

Luke Shaw will be hungry to remain as the starting left-back, but his injury issues in previous seasons could lead to him being the backup for a younger, more energetic player.

United eye Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly

As per TeamTALK, United are "actively tracking" Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly, who is currently finding himself out of the side with Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapié ahead of him at left-back.

Lewis-Skelly, despite his young age, was a regular in Thomas Tuchel's England squad, but has now been left out of the enlarged squad in the last international break before the World Cup begins in the summer.

Shaw, United's starting left-back, has also been left out of the squad, although that is likely due to fitness worries, as he has been impressive for Michael Carrick since he took over from Darren Fletcher and Amorim in January.

Patrick Dorgu could be considered as an option at left-back, making a move for Lewis-Skelly unnecessary, but TeamTALK also said that Dorgu is now considered more of an attacking option, following his brilliant left wing performances before his injury.

Dorgu scored against Manchester City and Arsenal - Michael Carrick's first two games - but has been injured since with a hamstring problem. He could be looking to return for United's next match against Leeds United on Monday, 13 April.

United's other left-back targets

As well as Lewis-Skelly, United are also eyeing three more established players, who have more experience in top-flight, senior football.

Tyrick Mitchell and Antonee Robinson (Crystal Palace and Fulham) are named as the two other Premier League targets, while David Raum is also considered an option.

Raum plays for RB Leipzig and Germany. He is known for his attacking prowess, rather than being defensively solid. However, he is a very different profile from Lewis-Skelly.

Before making an official move for any new left-back, United must learn who their new head coach will be, as each option has different strengths that could suit a different manager.

Lewis-Skelly likes to invert into central midfield; Tyrick Mitchell prefers to attack down the line but was known for his defensive ability before Palace switched to a back-five; Robinson is the closest to an all-rounder; and Raum has no Premier League experience.

The left-back search could be another position to be negatively impacted by the managerial hunt.
