0%After beating Tunisia 5-1, Sweden sits at the top of the group and is ready to take on the Netherlands, who drew 2-2 against Japan.
Sweden, fresh off a dominant victory will be full of confidence. Their three points eases the pressure on them and gives Graham Potter some liscence to play freely and cause major problems to the Netherlands.
Poor substiutions and a lack of concentration in the final 30 mins of the game cost Ronald Koemans side all three points last time out. However, their experienced and star studded side will back themselves to return to winning ways.
Anything but a win will mount significant pressure on the Oranje. Meanwhile, a win would confirm Sweden heading to the round of 32.
Team news
Gabriel Gudmundsson was previously a doubt for the game against Tunisia due to a viral infection. He made the starting eleven but, in the second half, was taken off due to a potential hamstring injury.
Alexander Isak was also seen training alone, and there were rumours he was a potential doubt. After spending the large majority of the season injured, there were fears it could be a flare-up.
However, both have been deemed fit and ready to take on the Netherlands. Sweden's press officer, Petra Thoren, confirmed as much when speaking to the Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen.
She said: "Everyone is training and there are no problems. Everyone is training, and the plan is for everyone to train hard. Yesterday, there was training three days after the match, and then there was a small individual program towards the end.
"Today we are going into the preparations for the next match. Then the plan is for everyone to be involved."
As for the Netherlands, there is some big news. On X, the Oranje confirmed Quinten Timber has been ruled out of the game against Sweden due to a mild concussion suffered in training.
However, in more positive news, Memphis Depay seems likely to have a bigger involvement against Sweden. Other than that, the rest of the squad is ready to take part.
Predictions
Due to what is at stake for both sides, especially for the Netherlands, you can expect this to be an interesting game.
Against bigger sides, Potter's side tends to dig deeper and allow the opposition to have more of the ball and strike on the counter. However, this may play into the hands of the Netherlands, who would much rather dominate the ball.
But the main weakness of the Dutch was that when Japan upped the ante and pressed harder, it put Koeman's side on the back foot and ultimately conceded big chances.
Sweden will most likely go into the game unchanged. The interesting debate is who plays in the attack for the Netherlands.
Cody Gakpo struggled but is all but a nailed-on starter, and Crysenio Summerville scored last time out, so is unlikely to be dropped. Therefore, Koeman faces a headache between Donyell Malen, who has been one of the most in-form forwards in Europe, and the Netherlands highest ever goalscorer in Depay.
That being said, this is anyone's game, but the lack of creativity shown in the first half against Japan by the Netherlands could be their undoing.
Prediction: Netherlands 2 - 1 Sweden.
