It was as you were in Santa Clara between Paraguay and Australia, with both teams almost certainly securing their passage to the World Cup knockout stages on Thursday
The first chance of the came after just four minutes, when Australia midfielder Jackson Irivne forced a strong save from Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill, who stood strong in his goal.
After that, truth be told, not a lot happened for quite a while. Similarly to in a few other games in round 3, you could tell that both teams were pretty happy to just take a point and likely progress to the next round without risking the gamble of being on three points and relying on goal difference in the third placed table - where you need to be one of the eighth best finishes.
In first half stoppage time, Cristian Volpato - making his full competitive debut for Australia after his controversial allegiance switch from Italy ahead of the tournament - forced Gill into another save with a strong effort from the right hand side. The two teams went into the half time interval goalless.
As for the second half, well it was more of the same in a lot of ways really. Both teams happy to progress with a point. With just under a quarter of an hour remaining, Diego Gomez picked up his second booking of the tournament, and will thus miss their round of 32 clash.
Reminder: Yellow cards in multiple games will wipe after the group stage (and until the quarters), but a yellow in two group games will still see you suspended for one game, and Gomez is an example of that. Paraguay were already without Miguel Almiron for this one, after his red card for mouth covering against Turkey last time out.
Anyway, back to this game - Julio Enciso nearly won the game for the South Americans with just under ten minutes to go, but his shot dragged narrowly wide in what was a rare attack for Gustavo Alfaro's men.
The Socceroos responded with an immediate chance of their own, but Jordan Bos' effort, lacked conviction and was comfortable enough for Gill to just collect. The same player went close with a curling effort just a few minutes later.
Both teams traded half chances on target in stoppage time, as the game finally came alive for whatever reason. But, 0-0 is how the game would ultimately finish in Group D. This result was enough to guarantee Australia's progression in second, whilst Paraguay will have to wait as a third placed side, but will almost certainly be going through too.
