At the start of this season, Desire Doue was not a household name in European football. It is safe to say that that has changed over the course of this campaign.
Doue capped off his breakthrough campaign with PSG in style by putting in one of the best performances in Champions League final history, as the French club finally ended their long wait for a maiden title in Europe's elite competition.
Doue assisted Achraf Hakimi's opener and then scored a brace of his own to put PSG 3-0 up and put the game beyond Inter Milan.
He was taken off in the 67th minute and did not get the chance to go for a hat-trick. But that does not matter. This is a performance that PSG fans will remember for the rest of time, and football has another Ballon d'Or contender for years to come.
Doue was clearly emotional after the game. He said: "I don't have the words. Thanks to the Parc, thanks Paris. A dream has become reality. It's just magnificent. It's crazy, I'm so happy. It's just the beginning."
This could really be just the beginning for Doue and PSG. After their 5-0 win in the final, it is hard to imagine who could stop them. And one could argue that this young team will only get better, now that they know what it takes to win the UEFA Champions League.
Was last night the beginning of the PSG era in European football?
