PSG eyes another Bundesliga talent, but Chelsea and Newcastle are already in hot pursuit of the promising young defender.

Two years after recruiting Willian Pacho from Eintracht Frankfurt, PSG has its sights on another defensive revelation from the Bundesliga ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports.

With the exception of Bundesliga followers, few PSG supporters had heard of Willian Pacho before his transfer to Paris. A transfer made official on Aug. 9, 2024, just four days after the first revelations from Sky Sports regarding Parisian interest in the Ecuadorian defender.

Pacho had been at Eintracht Frankfurt for only one season before being transferred to PSG for 40 million euros plus 5 million in bonuses. At the time, this amount was considered very high by many. Today, the Ecuadorian might be the best left center-back in the world.

Two years after this smart move, could PSG again bet on a young defensive talent from the Bundesliga? On March 22, the German site DeichStube, specialized in Werder Bremen, revealed PSG's interest in Karim Coulibaly, a young left-footed center back of 18 years and 1.91m, who is having a more than interesting first season in the Bundesliga with 22 matches (out of 27) played for Werder.

According to DeichStube, PSG has already scouted Karim Coulibaly on several occasions, and Luis Enrique has even placed him at the top of his wish list for next season. This source adds that contacts have already taken place between PSG and the player's representatives, although no offer has yet been transmitted to Werder Bremen.

Currently 14th in the Bundesliga, Werder is focused on its survival operation, but is already preparing to lose its young talent this summer, as confirmed recently by its sporting director. The German club has set Coulibaly's price at between 40 and 50 million euros, a range similar to the amount PSG spent for Pacho in the summer of 2024.

But according to DeichStube, PSG is not alone in the race, and several German, English, and Spanish clubs are also in the mix. In recent hours, the German tabloid Bild provided an update on the future of the German youth international and confirmed PSG's interest, while noting that it was, for now, less concrete than that of four other clubs.

According to the German tabloid Bild, serious discussions have already taken place between Werder and Newcastle, Chelsea, Napoli, and Olympique de Marseille, which is still hard to see having the financial capacity to close such a competitive deal, unlike the other clubs mentioned.

For PSG, this Coulibaly trail seems, in any case, quite credible, despite the untouchable status of Pacho. The futures of Lucas Beraldo and Lucas Hernandez are very uncertain, and it would not be surprising if the club seeks to recruit a left-sided center-back this summer.
