From Braga, where he is on loan this season from Paris Saint-Germain, Gabriel Moscardo gave an update to the Brazilian outlet Terra.
An opportunity for the 20-year-old midfielder to discuss his adaptation in Portugal and mention his good relationship with Luis Campos, who believes in him greatly.
Loaned last season to Reims without great success, Gabriel Moscardo is playing this season for Braga, a Portuguese first-division club one-third owned by QSI, PSG's main shareholder. While not a starter for the Portuguese club, Moscardo has participated in 22 matches this season (scoring one goal) and played 714 minutes, almost three times more than at Reims (only 256 minutes played).
In an interview with the Brazilian media Terra, Gabriel Moscardo discussed his adaptation at the Portuguese club, where he plays in a more offensive role than usual under the orders of Carlos Vicens, a former assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
"One thing I have developed a lot is being more of a number eight. Here at Braga, I sometimes play as a number 10, a midfielder who operates in both zones, receiving the ball more in the final third. When I arrived here at Braga, the coach identified this characteristic in me, which is that I have the legs and the fitness to play in the attacking zone and be able to attack, and the quality to finish actions in the final third."
Despite some rumors of a loan to Brazil, Moscardo therefore does not plan to return to his home country soon.
"In my view, it is still too early to return to Brazil. I left at 18 with a dream for Europe. Of course, I will return one day, but I always have this vision that I can still contribute a lot in Europe, where I think I have many opportunities to seize. Of course, I don't see returning to Brazil in a negative light. Brazilian football is a football that is evolving a lot. But I still think it's not the time, and I still have a lot to show here in Europe."
Under contract with PSG until June 2028, Gabriel Moscardo also discussed his trusting relationship with Luis Campos, who recruited him to PSG in January 2024 for nearly €20 million.
"Luis Campos is really someone who helped me a lot, especially during my foot convalescence, with all those problems related to the surgery. He was there when I was practically without a foot. He kept telling me: 'I'm going to hire you, I'm going to hire you, you are good, you are good, you will turn things around, I'm going to hire you, don't worry, don't worry, I'm going to hire you.' And he hired me. He always had total confidence in me, 100%. There was never the slightest doubt, like: 'Oh, shoot, you're not playing.' No, always, absolute confidence."
"I can say he is the person closest to me at PSG," Moscardo continued. "He is someone who often sends me messages, who talks to me, he's a bit like a father to me. And that conversation about a possible return to Paris Saint-Germain, about being used, he doesn't have it with me directly. He talks about it more with my agent, who more often approaches these questions of return, of contract. He wants to know how I am doing right now. How am I enjoying my playing time, how I am playing."
For his part, Moscardo has clear ideas: "Of course, I want to return to Paris Saint-Germain one day, I hope as soon as next season, but this conversation with Campos is more of a routine discussion. He even came to Braga to visit me, to attend matches. He is a present person, who shows his interest in my future at Paris Saint-Germain, who believes in me, who believes in my football, and I am very happy about that."
Listening to Moscardo, Luis Campos has big plans for him: "I appreciate him a lot, I have a lot of affection for him, and I hope to bring him a lot of joy too, because he says his goal is to make me succeed here at Paris Saint-Germain, to make me one of the best midfielders in the world, here in Paris. So let's work together to achieve that."
