Once again, a substitute on Tuesday night against Benin, PSG winger Ibrahim Mbaye came on at halftime and was decisive again, winning the penalty for Senegal's 3-0 goal, converted by Cherif Ndiaye.
Ibrahim Mbaye is gaining momentum with Senegal. Already the author of a goal and two assists against Kenya in a friendly on Nov. 18 and the provider for Sadio Mane's goal last Saturday against DR Congo, in the second matchday of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the young Parisian winger created Senegal's 3-0 goal on Tuesday night against Benin by winning a penalty in the dying moments after making a good run in behind.

Tipped to start, Ibrahim Mbaye was ultimately a substitute for this final Group D match, but replaced former Marseille player Iliman Ndiaye on the right wing at halftime and showed much more than him during the second half, which was also marked by the sending-off of Kalidou Koulibaly in the 71st minute.

The Senegalese site Wiwsport gave Mbaye a rating of 6/10 and highlighted his contribution: "The Parisian again showed all his speed and explosiveness. With his first touch of the ball, he won a good free-kick at the edge of the opponent's box. His technical skill allowed him to serve Sadio Mane (58th minute) and win a precious penalty for the 3-0. A substitute for how much longer?"
First in its group with seven points, ahead of DR Congo, Senegal will face Burkina Faso or Sudan in the AFCON Round of 16 this Saturday, Jan. 3, in Tangier. Another opportunity for Mbaye to show his worth with the Lions of Teranga. Perhaps from the starting whistle this time.
