Dembele's calf scare subsides. Initial assessments offer relief, hinting at a swift return and dodging a severe setback after his Monaco exit.

Injured in Monaco on Tuesday night in the Champions League, PSG forward Ousmane Dembele is suffering from a left calf problem, but while awaiting his medical exams, the initial news is rather reassuring.

Bothered by his left calf in Rennes last Friday, Ousmane Dembele was indeed a starter Tuesday night in Monaco, despite new warning signs at training the day before. The 2025 Ballon d'Or winner, unfortunately, quickly lowered his left sock and ultimately gave up his place in the 27th minute. A premature exit, like the one against Bayern Munich on Nov. 4 last year, was also due to a left calf injury.

At the time, PSG had communicated on a "lesion in the left calf" for Dembele, who was unavailable for 22 days before returning against Tottenham on Nov. 26. In the post-match press conference, Luis Enrique mentioned "a knock" received by his player to justify his early exit, which seemed rather reassuring.

Last November, PSG published a medical update the day after the match against Bayern Munich. Yesterday, PSG did not communicate any information about the health status of their No. 10, but L'Equipe revealed rather reassuring news in the evening. According to the sports daily, there would apparently be no lesion, at least Dembele reportedly assured he felt much better as of Wednesday morning.

The sports daily adds that Dembele is awaiting his medical exams, but hopes, like PSG, to return within about 10 days, as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia did after his ankle sprain against Newcastle on Jan. 28 last. The Georgian had feared the worst, but ultimately missed only one match and returned on Feb. 8 against Marseille.

If Dembele will likely be sidelined this Saturday against Metz and next Wednesday against Monaco for the return playoff, he could potentially be seen again against Monaco on March 6 in Ligue 1 and for a potential first-leg round-of-16 Champions League match on March 10 or 11. But this remains to be confirmed, and PSG should logically communicate on Dembele's health status in the coming hours.
