Two and a half days after the 5-0 humiliation against Paris Saint-Germain, Marseille parted ways with Roberto De Zerbi this evening and could replace him with ... Habib Beye, who was fired Monday, just before Rennes vs. PSG.
Two weeks after saying he hoped to see him stay at Marseille for life, Pablo Longoria finally finalized the departure of his coach, Roberto De Zerbi, on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, humiliated by PSG on Sunday at Parc des Princes after having already been humiliated a few days earlier in Bruges in the Champions League.
"De Zerbi ball" is no more, but nature abhors a vacuum, and Marseille is working to find a new coach three days before a difficult match against Strasbourg in Ligue 1. And the successor to the Italian coach could well be a certain ... Habib Beye, who theoretically should have faced PSG this Friday, but who was dismissed by Rennes on Monday after yet another defeat at Lens last Saturday.
The former right back for the Marseille club, who also took five at the Parc des Princes last December, is presented by Foot Mercato as the heavy favorite to replace De Zerbi at Marseille. While waiting to finalize this recruitment or not, the fourth-place team in Ligue 1 could temporarily entrust its bench to Pancho Abardonado and Romain Ferrier (reserve team coach) for the reception of Strasbourg this Saturday.
On the Rennes side, Franck Haise remains the heavy favorite to succeed Habib Beye, but given the timing, it already seems certain that he will not be on the Rennes bench this Friday evening against PSG. The coach of the Rennes reserve team, Sebastien Tambouret, should serve as interim this Friday after having taken charge of the Breton first team since Monday, assisted by Pierre-Alexandre Lelievre and Maxime Le Marchand.
