Rennes sacks coach just days before facing PSG. A new manager hunt begins amidst a challenging Ligue 1 fixture.

Still beaten this weekend by Lens, Stade Rennais has decided to part ways with its coach, Habib Beye. All this just four days before the visit of Paris Saint-Germain.

A comfortable winner over Marseille this Sunday night (5-0), PSG travels to Rennes this Friday night to open the 22nd matchday of Ligue 1. A match scheduled four days before its trip to Monaco in the Champions League playoff first leg. This Rennes vs. PSG match will feature Luis Enrique on the Parisian bench, but not Habib Beye.

The former Marseille right-back, who had taken a 5-0 beating with his team at the Parc in the first leg, has indeed just been dismissed this Monday by the Breton club, a decision that had been looming for a few days. Rennes' latest defeat against Lens (3-1) this weekend marked its team's fourth consecutive loss across all competitions, and it was the final straw for him.

"Stade Rennais F.C. has initiated a procedure regarding its head coach, Mr. Habib Beye, and his assistants, Mr. Olivier Saragaglia, Mr. Sebastien Bichard, and Mr. Yann Cavezza. Pending the forthcoming decision, the professional team's training sessions will be overseen by Sebastien Tambouret, Pierre-Alexandre Lelievre, and Maxime Le Marchand until further notice," can be read in a tweet posted a few minutes ago by the Breton club.

The outcome of the procedure is already known, and Beye will not be the Rennes coach on Friday. It remains to be seen whether the Tambouret/Lelievre/Le Marchand trio will serve as an interim against PSG or if Rennes will have found a new coach by then. According to RMC, Franck Haise is the clear favorite to succeed Beye. Free since his departure from Nice on December 28, Haise had passed through the Rennes academy from 2006 to 2012 before shining on the Lens bench and then failing at Nice.

According to Le Parisien, Haise has a good chance of becoming the new Rennes coach, but he likely will not be able to be there this Friday against PSG, the timing seeming too short since he must first finalize his agreement with the Breton club, then travel there, knowing he is currently abroad. Haise also has little personal interest in starting his Rennes adventure with such a complicated match and with so little time to prepare for it. It therefore seems very likely that the interim trio mentioned above will handle the match against PSG this Friday.
