Targeted by disciplinary proceedings after pushing a ball boy last Wednesday during PSG vs. Chelsea (5-2), Pedro Neto was ultimately not suspended by UEFA and will be able to play this Tuesday evening in the Champions League round of 16 second leg against PSG.
Pedro Neto got off very lightly. While Chelsea will be without their captain Reece James, injured in his hamstrings and out for about two months according to the latest leaks from the English press and RMC Sport, the English club will, however, be able to count on their Portuguese winger Pedro Neto for the Chelsea vs. PSG clash on Tuesday evening, in the Champions League round of 16 second leg.
A starter last Wednesday at the Parc des Princes and provider of an assist for Enzo Fernandez on the 2-2 goal, Pedro Neto had shoved a ball boy at the very end of the match, sparking the beginning of a scuffle.
The Blues winger had not been cautioned, quickly apologized, and gave his shirt to the ball boy at the final whistle, before appearing in a flash interview and making public apologies.
But UEFA had decided to open a disciplinary investigation for "unsportsmanlike conduct," and Pedro Neto risked a one-match suspension, which would have automatically ruled him out of the Chelsea vs. PSG match this Tuesday evening.
Unfortunately for PSG, UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) decided not to sanction the Portuguese international, who received only a warning.
Pedro Neto will therefore be able to play this Tuesday evening, and he will normally be fresher than his teammates, since he did not play last Saturday, when the Blues lost 1-0 to Newcastle, as he was suspended.
