Zaire-Emery reveals PSG's mental fortitude, celebrating their sixth trophy after a nail-biting Intercontinental Cup triumph.

In the 2025 Intercontinental Cup final, Paris Saint-Germain faced Flamengo in Al-Rayyan, Qatar, and the match was very hard-fought, as expected. Paris opened the scoring through Kvaratskhelia in the first half, but a penalty conceded by Marquinhos allowed Flamengo to equalize.

The match was undecided until the end, finishing in a penalty shootout, and Safonov, a surprise starter, then stopped almost everything, with four saves in five attempts. The Russian put PSG on top of the world!

PSG's Warren Zaire-Emery, one of the team's top performers, reacted to the victory, emphasizing the squad's resilience.

PSG's sextuple, with this hard-fought Intercontinental Cup...

"Tonight, that was the goal. We had a very clear objective: to come here and win. The coach told us not to give up, to play as usual. Honestly, we take pride in ourselves. We played a very good match, a very good final, against a very good team that brings a lot of intensity. Honestly, we are just proud of ourselves, and we will continue like this throughout the season."

You've experienced exceptional moments throughout the season. There have been knife-edge matches, like the penalty shootout finish at Liverpool. There was the match against Tottenham in the Super Cup. We feel that this team, when its back is against the wall in the final moments, has the mental resources to make the difference.

"This team has a lot of character. It shows we are a team, a collective. That's what the coach wanted when he arrived here. He has always instilled that in us: the collective above all. Today, it shows the strength we have and the team we are, and that's what we wanted."

A word about you, Warren. You played an absolutely exceptional match in a position that isn't your natural one to start with. You seem physically at a top level. You are back at the highest level.

"Honestly, it feels good to play like that, to be like that, to bring a lot of intensity. I am happy with myself. We have to keep going like this. There is a huge margin for progress. We will have to continue throughout the season because it will be complicated. This is only the beginning. The biggest part is yet to come."
