Why Alex Scott Receiving His First Ever England Call Up Is HUGE for AFC Bournemouth

This morning, Thomas Tuchel announced that AFC Bournemouth star midfielder Alex Scott has been called up to the England squad for the upcoming international break, in which The Three Lions will play 4 Nations League games in the 3 week period.

Cherries fans have been calling for the 22 year old to be called up to represent England, especially after Scott narrowly missed out on the recent World Cup squad, despite having a thoroughly impressive season under Andoni Iraola in the 2025/26 campaign.

Scott will also join 17 year old Rio Ngumoha at the camp where both youngsters will be making their maiden appearances at mens level for England. The 2 of them were in the pre World Cup training squad in USA in June, and have both kicked on to a different level in the opening month of the 2026/27 season. 

Seeing a player get called up to represent England when they are still at AFCB is also a really encouraging sign, as there have been times before where players have been performing to a high enough level to be called up to the squad but haven't been due to them playing for a smaller side.

Despite all of the interest from a plethora of big 6 clubs throughout the entirety of the summer transfer window; Scott was willing to keep on playing for Cherries under the reign of Marco Rose and that choice looks to be the best one he could have made.

There is a common misconception that is made with when players are at Bournemouth and that is that when a player has a single good season, that they should instantly move on to a bigger club that has a much higher ceiling than Cherries and cannot make the step up to play at the level. However, Scott is constantly getting more consistent and adding more layers to his game and will be ready to make that step up come next summer.

If Scott keeps on playing at the level that he is across all competitions and stays injury free for the duration of the season, Bournemouth will have every chance to win their first ever major trophy as it is clear that having an England International will be a crucial level raiser for Marco Rose's team.

The other reason to why this call up is a great things for the club, is that it shows young English players that they can get rewarded with International caps if their performance warrants it whilst at one of the smallest clubs in the Premier League.
