As pressure mounts on head Marco Rose, AFCB fans across social media have been calling for Eddie Howe to be the replacement if Bill Foley ends up sacking him Whilst it would seem like a fairytale ending if Howe comes in to win the Europa League, there are many reasons to why it should not happen.
Eddie Howe will always be an AFC Bournemouth legend after taking the club from the depths of League Two to 5 years of Premier League football, and there is no reason to why he should come back to AFCB, despite a plethora of fans thinking it would be a great option for the club.
Howe is clearly an ambitious manager, as shown by the levels that he reached at both AFC Bournemouth and Newcastle too. If you look at where Bournemouth are now as a club compared to when Newcastle were in their peak under Howe, Cherries are clearly a step down from that.
When Howe was at Newcastle, there was an expectation that they should be competing for trophies and qualifying for the Champions League on a semi regular basis. To further his career, managing a club like Manchester United if they sack Carrick or Liverpool if the Iraola experiment fails will be a deserved step up from Newcastle instead of joining his former side that sit 18th in the Premier League.
IMAGO / Every Second MediaThere is every possibility that fortune changes for Marco Rose, and it all starts to click in the coming weeks, just like it did for Andoni Iraola. This should be every fans hope, as Rose clearly has European pedigree and is a top tactical coach. There is no harm in considering who could be the next head coach if Cherries are winless in a months time, but Eddie Howe is not the answer.
There is also a low chance that Howe would even consider the job if Rose were to lose his job in the coming weeks, as he has made it widely known that he likes to take time out of football when leaving a job, and rejoining your former club for the 3rd time when they have a tough schedule, injuries and are under a different owner, who has different ambitions to when he was at the club.
IMAGO / IPSEddie Howe's legacy as it stands is that he is the biggest icon in AFC Bournemouth's 127 year history, so why would he risk tarnishing his legacy by joining a club that wouldn't even be considered an upgrade for him based off his achievements at Newcastle?
As fans, Howe's achievements should never be underestimated and he will always be welcomed with open arms to Dean Court, but sometimes the answer to a problem isn't someone who has already had 3 separate spells at your football club, ending over 6 years ago.
