Player ratings as Arsenal defeat Everton 2-0 to close the gap on Manchester City at the top of the table to just goal-difference.
Arsenal were victorious over Everton in the Premier League thanks to goals from Ezri Konsa and Gabriel Magalhães.
The 2-0 meant the Gunners go equal with Manchester City on 21 points in the first eight games although City remain top thanks to goal difference.
Starting XI:
David Raya - 7
Arsenals no.1 wasn’t tested with much on the afternoon as the hosts dominated the ball and the matches chances but was still as active as ever from his position. As expected, the Spaniards distribution was good and his sweeping was a big help to the side.
Ben White - 7
It wasn’t the best performance we’ve seen from the right-back but he was still solid nevertheless. Grabbed a second-half assists and dealt with Everton’s biggest threat in Tyrique George very well and won his duels consistently, solid performance.
Ezri Konsa - 8
The Englishman scored the opening goal of the match and his first goal for Arsenal just a day after his 29th birthday, there’s not many better gifts than that. His composure at the back is meaning Arsenal aren’t missing William Saliba anywhere near as much as expected.
Gabriel Magalhães - 8
Really solid once again from the man-mountain at the back, a typical Gabriel header as well as he towered highest and found himself in some space in the six yard box .He was excellent throughout the game both on and off the ball. His distribution was great and made a crucial goal-line clearance early on.
Myles Lewis-Skelly - 7
Back into that left-back position for Lewis-Skelly today but he was still superb and had plenty of access in midfield where he influenced the game. A few moments where he could’ve done better in the final-third but a good performance regardless.
Declan Rice - 8
Imperious once again from the Englishman, he ran the midfield from a defensive midfield position where he often found himself alone in midfield. Rice is playing a lot of football at the moment but with performances as consistent as these it’s easy to see why.
Mikel Merino - 6
Definitely not Merino’s best performance but better than the cameos we’ve seen recently. Not bad by any means but I still feel he’s more comfortable playing further up the pitch as a centre-forward of just off the striker.
Martin Ødegaard- 7
Some really nice moments in the game but nothing out of the ordinary from the captain. He linked play really well and was a huge reason as to why Arsenal dominated the match.
Noni Madueke - 7
Madueke is really growing into his role in the team, whether that be off the left or back to his familiar right-wing role we saw today. Always providing a 1v1 threat with the fullback and was close to finding the target with a couple weak-foot strikes.
Eberechi Eze - 7
Although he wasn’t on the scoresheet like he was against Bayern Munich, this was another really positive performance from the attacker. Starting the game from the left-wing has really helped him build up some momentum, he created a few good chances and worked hard defensively.
Viktor Gyökeres - 6
Whilst we’re definitely seeing an improvement over the last two games, there’s still a lot to improve on for the Swede. Yet another game without a single shot, Arsenal need more from their no.9 than no shots in 68 minutes.
Substitutes:
Riccardo Calafiori - 6
Calafiori wasn’t really involved much but did his job well. Won his duels, looked good defensively and ventured forward on occasion, good to see him rested for a busy upcoming few weeks.
Kai Havertz - 6
Havertz didn’t really have many chances off the bench but he held the ball up well and looked sharp. Good pressing and added some needed energy off the bench.
Bruno Guimarães- 6
Very good cameo off the bench from Bruno Guimarães, his passing was adventurous and progressive as ever which saw him make the pass before Ben White’s assist for Gabriel’s goal to put Arsenal 2-0 up.
Max Dowman - 6
There wasn’t really enough time for Dowman to properly impact the game in any meaningful way but good to see him get more minutes. Surely a starter for the Carabao Cup trip to Fleetwood Town.
Martin Zubimendi - 6
Good to see Zubimendi back on the pitch after his short injury but like Dowman, he didn’t have much time to affect the game. Unlucky to get a knock to the nose though.
