The Belgian specialist arrives from Strasbourg to succeed Per Mertesacker, bringing elite European expertise to Hale End while sharpening the club’s global recruitment and youth development pathways.
Arsenal have appointed Pascal De Maesschalck as their new Academy Director, with the former Strasbourg technical director joining on August 1.
Arsenal confirmed De Maesschalck’s appointment, with the Belgian set to take up his new role on August 1 after departing Strasbourg.
De Maesschalck has served as Strasbourg’s technical director since 2024 and now heads to North London to lead Arsenal’s academy.
He replaces Per Mertesacker, who stepped down at the end of last season after eight years overseeing the academy. De Maesschalck now takes on the task of guiding the next phase of Arsenal’s youth development.
De Maesschalck will oversee the development of the club’s young players while helping to strengthen recruitment of outstanding young talent from the UK and abroad.
The appointment brings in an academy specialist with experience across Europe. Before joining Strasbourg, De Maesschalck spent three years as director of youth development at AS Monaco.
He previously spent a decade as head of academy at Club Brugge, earning a reputation for developing young players and building pathways to first-team football.
