Vincent Kompany faces a selection crisis at the Allianz Arena as fitness doubts over Manuel Neuer and Jamal Musiala threaten to derail Bayern’s clash against record-chasing Arsenal.

Bayern Munich have announced that they could be without two further key players when they play host to Arsenal in a crunching UEFA Champions League tie at Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening.

The German giants have cast doubts over the availability of both goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and midfielder Jamal Musiala for tomorrow’s league phase fixture. This adds to the already confirmed loss of Michael Olise with the Frenchman being shown a red card in Vincent Kompany’s side's 3-3 draw with Norwegian side Viking FK in their last European outing.

Musiala is set to miss the fixture through a torn musical fibre in his thigh, that he suffered when warming up for Germany before their UEFA Nations League fixture against The Netherlands. Although he will be a big loss for the German Giants, the 23 year-old is yet to make a desired effect for the Bundesliga’s most decorated club. He has played a total of 213 minutes across the Bundesliga and Champions League, scoring two goals and providing a singular assist. The number ten spot has largely been shared between the German and Ismael Saibari before his latest injury.

The story is different for Manuel Neuer however. At 40 years-old, the veteran shot stopper still stands as Bayern’s first choice keeper. The German stalwart has played 540 minutes of football so far this season, starting in four Bundesliga fixtures and registering two clean sheets, as well as a clean sheet in his only Champions League appearance of the campaign. A flare up of a foot injury has meant that he has missed Munich’s last two fixtures, including the 3-3 draw with Viking FK and a 6-1 thrashing of RB Leipzig. Despite returning to some form of training, his inclusion is being described as ‘doubtful.

Arsenal have injury concerns of their own to contend with, with Piero Hincapie still set to be out with an ankle injury despite the positive update of a return to grass for the Ecuaradorian, who was seen completing some individual work in training. Christos Tzolis and William Saliba also remain sidelined for Mikel Arteta’s men with their respective hamstring and back issues.

It is set to be a cracker in Munich, with Arsenal chasing down a Champions League record 17 straight group stage/league phase wins. A record which is currently held by their German hosts set between 2020-2023. Arsenal currently sit on a remarkable 14 straight wins in the league phase of the competition.

For viewers in the UK, the game will be live on TNT Sport/HBO Max, with kickoff at 8PM.
