The Brazilian midfielder’s stunning debut strike silenced the Stadium of Light, securing vital points for Arteta’s side and earning a spot among the Premier League’s elite finishes for the month of September.

Arsenal’s summer transfer signing Bruno Guimaraes has been nominated for Premier League goal of the month for his strike in The Gunners’ 0-2 win at The Stadium Of Light.

Arsenal signed the Brazilian midfielder from Newcastle United for £75m in the transfer window just gone, however the 28 year-olds start to life at Arsenal has been disrupted through niggles and small knocks. Despite the frustrations, that did not deter him from making an instant impact against his former side's biggest rivals on 12th September.

Guimaraes started the fixture against Regis Le Bris’ men on the bench, as Arsenal deployed a starting midfield of Myles Lewis-Skelly and Declan Rice. The former was struggling to grow into the game and so  Arteta introduced his new star signing at half-time to partner Rice in the second half as the Spaniard was searching for an opener from his side.

The substitution proved to be an inspired choice from Arteta as it was Rice and Guimaraes who combined to set up Arsenal’s opener after David Raya had saved Enzo Le Fee’s spot kick just minutes prior. After some intricate passing from The Gunners on the edge of the Sunderland box, Rice laid it off to Guimaraes who took one touch to take the ball out of his feet, before wrapping his foot around a curling effort that sumptuously found the top right hand corner, leaving Robin Roefs no chance in the black cats’ net, sending the away end into raptures.

Interestingly, three of them came in this month's nominations, with Bruno Guimaraes, Ainsley Maitland-Niles & Nicolas Jackson's strikes all being nominated off the back of their first goals for their new clubs.
