Mikel Arteta rings the changes at Anfield as Declan Rice returns and Christos Tzolis starts, with the Gunners chasing their first away win over Liverpool since 2012.
Mikel Arteta has made a staggering nine changes from the rotated Arsenal side that were humiliated by Fleetwood in midweek in the Carabao Cup, as Arsenal look to win at Anfield for the first time in 14 years. Arsenal can climb back to the summit of the Premier League table if they avoid defeat on Merseyside after Enzo Maresca’s Manchester City were beaten by Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon.
David Raya reclaims his spot in goal, with Gabriel Magalhães and Ezri Konsa partnering up at centre-half once again. Jurriën Timber keeps his spot from the defeat at Highbury Stadium, whilst Riccardo Calafiori has passed a late fitness test to be included in this afternoon’s fixture.
Into the midfield, and the Gunners have been handed another huge boost as Declan Rice is also deemed fit to start. Bruno Guimarães partners the England international in the midfield with captain Martin Ødegaard re-introduced into the side in the number ten role as he looks to continue his bright start to the current campaign.
Another brilliant piece of news for Arsenal is the return of Christos Tzolis who is starting his first match for the north London side since the 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion before the international break. Kai Havertz is back upfront, with Noni Madueke also deemed fit to start on the right hand side of the Arsenal attack.

Liverpool are in a run of good form under Andoni Iraola, and have only lost once this season with that defeat being at Anfield to Manchester City. The Gunners will be looking to continue their run of three straight Premier League victories and avenge some pride from the embarrassment that Tuesday night brought along.
The Reds are without striker Hugo Ekitike who is out with an achilles tendon injury whilst Dutch defender Jeremie Frimpong also misses out with a hamstring injury. Giovanni Leoni and Connor Bradley also miss out. For Arsenal, they are missing the injured William Saliba and Bukayo Saka, whilst sixteen year-old Max Dowman also misses out through suspension.
This afternoon’s fixture kicks off at 4:30pm in the United Kingdom and is live on Sky Sports.
