The England international eyes a permanent starting role after finding the net against Lille, praising Mikel Arteta’s attacking system as he pushes for more Premier League minutes.

Eberechi Eze has spoken out on life at Arsenal following the Gunners’ comfortable 3-0 victory against LOSC Lille last night in matchday 2 of the Champions League.

Eze, who has started back-to-back games in Europe this season after completing 66 minutes in the 1-0 victory in Naples, started and completed 90 minutes this time around under the lights at Emirates Stadium.

The 28-year-old found the back of the net for the first time this season, finishing off a sweeping cross from Bukayo Saka first time into the bottom right-hand corner, albeit with the aid of a slight deflection.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the victory, the England international hailed how ‘fun’ it is to play for Arsenal.

“It’s fun. You know that opportunities are coming all over the place, so you’ve just got to be ready, be in the right places, be in the right spaces to get on the end of stuff. It’s a fun team to play in!” he said.

Speaking on the three points in last night’s Champions League game, Eze went on to say, “It was an enjoyable performance from all of us. We dominated the game, and we enjoy winning, so that’s the main thing.”

The win for Arsenal last night extended their winning run to 14 games in the Champions League league phase of the competition. Arsenal have not lost in this particular part of the competition since a 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan at the San Siro on 6th November 2024.

With Christos Tzolis out through injury, Eze will no doubt be keen to impress Mikel Arteta to stake his claim for a starting spot on the left-hand side, and he will hope his goal last night will kickstart a run of goal contributions to aid the Gunners as they look to progress in all four competitions this season.

Speaking on how he wants to continue to affect games, he ended the interview by saying, “I always want to play, always want to score, and that’s the mentality - I’ll keep pushing and keep working.”

Arsenal make the trip up to Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon as attention turns back to the Premier League, and Eze will be hoping that his performance last night was enough to justify a starting spot on the left, with first-choice winger Tzolis still sidelined.

The £67.5 million signing is yet to complete a full 90 minutes in the Premier League this season, having only played a total of 85 minutes in the English top flight, but Mikel Arteta now has a tough decision to make ahead of Sunday’s fixture after his bright showing in north London.
