With minor injury concerns persisting this week, Keith Andrews’ usually incredibly settled side will have a couple of changes for this weekend's game against Bournemouth. Here’s how I think Brentford will line up.
GK: Caoimhin Kelleher
A fine start to the campaign for the Irishman. Found real consistency during his debut campaign in red and white and rightfully has locked down his place as Brentford’s number one.
LB: Keane Lewis-Potter
Despite securing the signature of El Hadji Malick Diouf, Lewis-Potter looks set to stay at left-back for the foreseeable future. Hardly put a foot wrong this season. Looks to be shoring up defensively, and going forward looks a real threat. Up against Rayan on Saturday afternoon will be a tough assignment, but Lewis-Potter has the skillset for another top afternoon to continue a great start to the season.
CB: Jannik Schuster
All the talk around Brentford surrounds this man at the moment. After an injury to Nathan Collins in the opening 20 minutes of last weekend's draw with Sunderland, Jannik Schuster was called into action for his Premier League debut. A confident debut at that. He slotted in, found his feet early, made a key block on the line to deny a guaranteed Sunderland goal, and deserved the praise from head coach Keith Andrews after the game. With comments from Andrews pointing towards a weekend in the medical room for Collins, Schuster will make his first Premier League start for the club this weekend.
CB: Kris Ajer
Coming off the back of a successful World Cup with Norway, Kris Ajer has firmly cemented himself in the starting lineup with a string of impressive league performances. With Sepp van den Berg out injured, Ajer is going nowhere.
RB: Michael Kayode
The ever-impressive Michael Kayode will without doubt start again this weekend. A tricky afternoon last weekend saw him hooked at half-time, but that won't stop him from starting this weekend. All to play for for a young man on the verge of his first Italy call up after Roberto Mancini was present at Elland Road for the entertaining draw at the end of August.
CDM: Mamadou Sangaré
Another of the three players to be taken off at half-time, but will without doubt hold his place in the lineup this week. An off day last time out. Hopefully the Sangaré we saw against Spurs and Leeds turns up against a Bournemouth midfield including Alex Scott, who has once again impressed this season.
CDM: Vitaly Janelt
The man who just can't be dropped. Confidently keeping Yehor Yarmoliuk out of the side at the moment, and will very likely see his performance and goal against Sunderland rewarded with another start this weekend on the south coast.
CAM: Mikkel Damsgaard
We all know his talent. On his day, he can single handedly run the game, but these occasions have been few and far between of late. Flashes of excellence this season so far, but when he turns the key properly, Brentford will ease past teams. Hopefully this weekend is one of those games that he takes by the scruff of the neck.
LW: Kevin Schade
A decent start to the season for the German international. The optimism is there, the energy is there, he is off the mark for the season, and looks a threat. He starts for me this weekend and will play a big role in bringing a sense of urgency to an attack that looked flat last weekend.
RW: Jaidon Anthony
Despite returning to his former stomping ground, I think Dango Ouattara will be dropped from the lineup this week after a really underwhelming display against Sunderland. Jaidon Anthony didn’t pull up any trees, but he looked like much more of a threat than Ouattara, and even had the ball in the back of the net, which was eventually ruled out through VAR intervention. Deserves a start this week, in my opinion.
ST: Igor Thiago
A slow start to the season, but I think the goalscoring form is getting ever closer for one of Europe’s elite strikers. If he can find his form this weekend, there is a huge case for Brentford to bring home all three points. Question marks over his form, and rightly so, but he starts every day of the week for me.
