According to reports in the media, Brentford are expected to make a huge bid for West Ham United and Senegal national team left back, El Hadji Malick Diouf.

It has already been an intriguing summer transfer window for Brentford. The club have moved to bring in the likes of Jaidon Anthony (Burnley), Callum Wilson (West Ham United), and the club record deal to sign Malian midfielder Mamadou Sangare from Ligue 1 side RC Lens.

Nevertheless, there is still a hope from within the fanbase that a couple more key additions will be made. That extra bit of depth and quality that could be the difference between a strong season, and a season that results in European Football.

Well, it looks like at the very least it will not be for the want of trying. Indeed so, as it is being reported by talkSPORT journalist, Alex Crook, that the Bees are set to make an improved bid for West Ham United's Senegalese left-back, El Hadjji Malick Diouf.

Crook reports that the offer could be as high as £40 million, which you would imagine would be too much for a side now playing in the Championship to turn down, though you never know in today's game.

However, this could still be a very exciting signing, even if the fee ends up being a bit steep. Diouf is a very talented left-back, who first became known in the Premier League consciousness when he was part of the Senegal side who defeated England 3-1 in June 2025. At that point he already appeared to have a number of offers from the Premier League, and he eventually joined West Ham United that summer.

Whilst showing glimpses of what he could do, it was not the best season for Diouf with the Hammers, but it feels like he was a by-product of what was, by and large a poor side, especially before Christmas. The talent level and potential is quite clearly there.

In terms of the fit with Brentford, he could give the side a bit more balance. To give him his dues, Keane Lewis-Potter has filled in admirably in that position, but you can tell that he is a winger by trade, and you can certainly tell that he's right footed.

There is Aaron Hickey too, and we know he is a very two footed player, but his injury record simply cannot be relied on, so you have to be proactive, very much like with Rico Henry. Plus, with Hickey you want him as cover at right-back too.

So, with the scenario of Michael Kayode and Hickey as right-backs, with Lewis-Potter and Henry as left-backs, one more player would be pretty handy to have in there, and Diouf would fit the bill. Though inconsistent, some of his crosses can be extremely dangerous, and Igor Thiago would thrive off them. This would be a very nice and interesting addition.
