Sky Sports News’ Lyall Thomas reports that talks are ongoing between the two clubs, with Brentford still pushing to strengthen their attack this summer.
Last week, Brentford had opened talks with Burnley over both Anthony and Zian Flemming, as the west London side weigh up ways to add more firepower in the final third.
Anthony now looks to be the priority, with Brentford coming back in for the 26-year-old winger with a new offer.
The move fits Brentford’s plans to add at least one new winger this summer. Anthony’s ability to play on either flank would give Keith Andrews more options out wide, even though he’s usually been deployed on the left.
Anthony’s name comes up after a standout individual season, even as Burnley dropped out of the Premier League.
The 26-year-old was the third-highest scoring English winger in the Premier League last season with eight goals, behind only Jarrod Bowen and Morgan Rogers. He also provided four assists, all whilst in a struggling Burnley team.
Anthony wouldn’t be an unknown quantity. He’s already shown he can deliver in the Premier League, even in tough circumstances, and would bring something different to Brentford’s wide options as the club reassesses its attacking depth.
The Clarets are gearing up for the Championship without a permanent manager since Scott Parker left, so their recruitment plans are still in flux after relegation. That doesn’t mean they’ll be forced to sell on Brentford’s terms, but it does add another layer to the negotiations.
Flemming is still also on Brentford’s radar too. He hit 11 Premier League goals last season, even as Burnley went down, and would add depth behind Igor Thiago in the central attacking roles.
For now, though, Anthony is the main focus after Brentford’s latest approach.
There’s no sign of an agreement yet, with talks reportedly still ongoing. The question now is whether Burnley will move closer to Brentford’s valuation, or if more negotiation will be needed.
With his numbers, versatility and top-flight experience, Anthony is a name to watch. Brentford are looking for more threat across the front line, and this latest bid shows he’s firmly on their radar as they try to bring more balance and depth to the attack this summer.
