Brentford intend to trigger contract options for Mathias Jensen and Rico Henry, keeping both players at the club until 2027.
Brentford are moving to protect the core of Keith Andrews’ squad, with Mathias Jensen and Rico Henry both in line to have their contracts extended until 2027.
According to an exclusive from Sky Sports, Brentford intend to activate the options in Jensen and Henry’s current deals this summer. The club are also keeping open the possibility of further discussions over longer-term agreements, with both players’ situations under review.
The plan reflects a wider theme around Brentford’s summer. Rather than entering the window with uncertainty over several senior players, the club are positioned to make decisions from a place of control.
Jensen has remained a reliable figure in midfield this season, contributing five goals and three assists in 38 appearances. At 30, the Denmark international continues to offer experience, technical security and set-piece quality in a team that has again had to deal with injuries and changes across the campaign.
Henry’s situation is slightly different because of his recent fitness record. The 28-year-old has been out with a hamstring problem, but he had been in strong form before suffering the injury in February and is now moving closer to a return.
For Brentford, the value in keeping both players is clear. Jensen and Henry are not fringe squad decisions. Both have played important roles in the club’s Premier League years, and extending their contracts would give Andrews greater stability before another important summer window.
The timing also matters. Brentford are still pushing to finish the season strongly, with European qualification still within reach. Securing continuity around experienced players would help the club approach the summer without needing to solve unnecessary contract issues before addressing other areas of the squad.
Brentford are also in a healthy position elsewhere. Josh Dasilva is the only other senior player approaching the end of his permanent contract, although his deal also includes an option to extend.
The rest of the permanent first-team squad under contract until at least the summer of 2027. Reiss Nelson is the exception in the wider group, with his loan from Arsenal due to expire at the end of the season.
That leaves Brentford able to focus more on strengthening than firefighting. The club are assessing the market ahead of the summer, and the possibility of European football next season could make their project more attractive to potential targets.
For Jensen and Henry, the immediate expectation is that Brentford will use the contractual options already available to them. Longer-term talks may follow, but the first step would keep two experienced players tied down until 2027 and maintain continuity in a squad still pushing to take another step forward.
