Brentford face Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in their final pre-season friendly, with many players ready to get one last run out before the real thing gets going.
Brentford have one more key part of pre-season preparation before the 26/27 season begins, as they host Frankfurt on Saturday afternoon.
A very encouraging 4-2 win away to Ligue 1 side Rennes last weekend has left the Bees and fans in good spirits ahead of this game. Keith Andrews' side will be looking to finish pre-season on a high before they host Tottenham Hotspur the following Saturday.
Brentford Team News
Aside from the injured Sepp van den Berg, whom is expected to return in November, manager Keith Andrews has a healthy squad it his disposal.
Kristoffer Ajer made his return in the first half of Brentford's morning match against Rennes behind closed doors. The Bees will be looking to continue building his fitness ready for the new season, having joined the squad late from Norway's successful World Cup run Having been knocked out six days previously, against Ajer's Norway, Igor Thiago played, and scored in the main friendly against Rennes in front of fans, based on that timetable, we could see Ajer feature here. He did play more in the summer, but it has now been over a month, so it would be good to get some minutes in the legs before the Spurs game.
Given this is the final game before the season starts, we can probably expect Andrews to play the strongest XI he possibly can.
Frankfurt Form and Team News
Frankfurt are unbeaten through pre-season under their new manager, Adolf Hutter, who had previously managed the club between 2018 and 2021.
Die Adler have conceded just one goal in that time, so if that is anything to go by, it will be a very tough game for the Bees.
Frankfurt are dealing with a number of injuries as the season approaches. Defender Timothy Chandler suffered a thigh injury in training earlier this week but is expected to return to training shortly for the German side, raising questions about his availability for their visit to the Gtech.
Elsewhere, Nnamdi Collins is undergoing workload management due to a back issue, with the centre-back also expected back in full training soon.
Midfielder Noel Aseko has been managing a knee problem, missing both the recent 2-0 friendly victory over Hull City and 5-1 win over FSV Frankfurt.
What to Expect
This could be a very interesting, entertaining game. The importance will be less on the result, but more how coherent the team look on the eve of the season.
We don't have much evidence to go off in pre-season so far, but the team did look very good at Rennes last weekend. With Frankfurt also a very good attacking side, a lot of the focus will simply be on managing to create more chances, and hopefully in turn, score more goals in what will likely be an end to end affair.
With two goals conceded last time out, and Frankfurt's firepower to date in pre-season, it will be a big test for the defence. Hopefully, if Ajer comes back in, and Mamadou Sangare a bit more up to speed with his team mates, the team will look more resolute and solid.
When is Brentford vs Frankfurt & How To Watch?
Brentford welcome Eintracht Frankfurt to the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday, August 15, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm BST.
The friendly will be shown live on EintrachtTV+, Frankfurt’s official streaming service.
Prediction
Both teams are very capable of scoring goals and have plenty of firepower in their ranks. Meaning this match up could see plenty of goals.
Thiago is back in goal scoring form for Brentford following World Cup disappointment, whilst new signing Callum Wilson showed he's still got it over in France, it would be a surprise if the Bees are kept out in this one. Likewise, it feels unlikely that Frankfurt will not get on the scoresheet themselves.
Prediction: Brentford 2-2 Frankfurt
