Dango Ouattara will miss a second Burkina Faso game during the international break after failing to recover from the illness that kept him out against Benin.

Dango Ouattara will miss Burkina Faso's second Africa Cup of Nations qualifier of the international break after failing to recover from illness.

The Brentford winger was unavailable for Friday's 1-1 draw against Benin despite initially joining up with Amir Abdou's squad for the September fixtures. He is also sitting out of Monday’s AFCON qualifier against Central African Republic in Casablanca.

Abdou had confirmed the latest on Ouattara when discussing the potential squad ahead of the game.

"Edmond and Ismaïla are doing better. However, Dango Ouattara has not recovered," the Burkina Faso head coach said, with his comments carried by Foot Africa. "There is also Hervé Koffi, whom we will assess tonight before we know more."

Burkina Faso were held at home after taking the lead in that opening game and head into the second round of fixtures with one point. Mauritania sit top of the group after beating the Central African Republic 3-1, giving Abdou's side an early reason to avoid dropping further ground.

Ouattara's illness has also kept him out of two more matches after a mixed opening month when coming to starting opportunities at Brentford.

He began the Premier League season in Keith Andrews' front three against Tottenham and was one of only three players retained for the 6-1 Carabao Cup win at Birmingham three days later. Jaidon Anthony replaced him for the draw at Leeds, before Ouattara returned to the starting XI against Sunderland.

Anthony was then preferred from the start against Bournemouth and Chelsea, although Ouattara remained involved from the bench. His last start came in the Carabao Cup at Reading, providing two assists in the Bees' 2-1 win to take them through to the fourth round of the tournament.

That left Ouattara heading into the international break with two Premier League starts and starts in both of Brentford's cup ties. Burkina Faso duty would have provided another run of competitive football, but illness has so far kept him out of both AFCON qualifiers.

The Central African Republic game is not Burkina Faso's final match before Ouattara is due to return to West London, so the winger still has a chance to make an appearance. Abdou's side are also set to face Argentina in a friendly on October 3.

No indication has yet been given over whether Ouattara could recover in time for that game. Brentford don't return to Premier League action until October 10, when Andrews' side travel to Aston Villa.
