The Brazilian powerhouse netted 22 goals to join Erling Haaland in a fan-voted XI, cementing his rise from injury struggles to becoming one of England’s most clinical forwards.
Igor Thiago has been named in the Premier League Fan Team of the Season after a remarkable individual campaign for Brentford.
The Premier League confirmed the XI after supporters from around the world were invited to choose their team from a 60-player shortlist. More than 200,000 fans submitted selections, and the players receiving the most votes at each position made the final team.
Thiago was selected in attack alongside Manchester City pair Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo, with the Brentford striker rewarded for a season that pushed him into the league’s elite group of forwards.
It is another major marker of how far Thiago’s reputation has risen in the space of one campaign. The Brazilian scored 22 Premier League goals for Brentford, finishing behind only Haaland in the Golden Boot race and becoming the focal point of Keith Andrews’ attack.
That output carried even more weight because of the context around Brentford’s season. The Bees had moved into a new attacking cycle after the departures of Ivan Toney, Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa, leaving a significant share of goals and influence to replace.
Thiago did more than fill the gap. He became Brentford’s central attacking figure, giving the side penalty-box presence, physicality and a reliable finishing edge across the campaign.
Thiago scored 22 of Brentford’s 54 Premier League goals, accounting for 41 per cent of the club’s total league output. The highest share by a player in a single Premier League campaign since Harry Kane scored 43 per cent of Tottenham’s goals in 2022/23.
The recognition also follows a wider breakthrough year for Thiago. He won Brentford’s supporters’ player of the year and players’ player of the year awards at the club’s end-of-season event, underlining his impact inside and outside the dressing room.
His rise has not stopped at the club level. Thiago’s Brentford form earned him a place in the Brazil picture, with the striker making his senior international breakthrough in a World Cup year.
That gives his inclusion in the Fan Team of the Season an extra layer. Thiago has not only been one of Brentford’s best players, but he has also become one of the Premier League’s most widely recognised forwards over the last year.
Arsenal were the best-represented club in the fan-selected XI, with David Raya, Jurrien Timber, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Declan Rice all included after their title-winning campaign. Bruno Fernandes and Dominik Szoboszlai also made the team.
For Brentford, though, Thiago’s place stands out. In a side dominated by players from Arsenal and Manchester City, the Bees have a representative because their number nine made himself impossible to ignore.
After an injury-hit first season in west London, Thiago has turned his second campaign into a statement year. Twenty-two league goals, two Brentford awards, Brazil recognition and now a place in the Premier League Fan Team of the Season. It is a personal season that has changed how he is viewed, not just at Brentford but across the league.
