Brentford head coach Keith Andrews has called for Manchester City's financial rules case to be resolved soon, while backing the authorities to reach the right outcome.

Keith Andrews wants a swift conclusion to Manchester City's financial rules case, although the Brentford head coach believes the authorities should be left to determine the outcome without interference.

The Premier League has spent much of the past fortnight dealing with the fallout from an independent commission's findings against City, who were found guilty of serious financial breaches covering nine seasons between 2009 and 2018.

City have appealed the decision and continue to deny wrongdoing, with the question of potential sanctions still unanswered.

Andrews was asked for his view on the situation and, while acknowledging how significant it is fro the Premier League, made it clear that he had no intention of passing judgement before the process was complete.

"It's a huge situation for the Premier League to have to deal with. The fact that it's still ongoing, I think it's wrong for me to really dig too much into that.

"I think I should respect where the authorities are with this and trying to come to the right outcome, which I'm sure they will."

It is a case that has hung over English football for several years. The Premier League first announced the charges against City in February 2023, following an investigation that began in December 2018, and the independent hearing concluded almost two years ago.

The commission's findings were finally published on 29 September, confirming serious breaches relating to the financial information City provided to the Premier League. The club were also found guilty of the majority of charges concerning their failure to cooperate with the investigation.

City have strongly rejected those conclusions, arguing that the commission made material errors in reaching its decision. Their appeal means the findings remain subject to challenge, while any punishment would be dealt with through a separate process.

For those outside Manchester City, the latest developments have at least brought some clarity over the allegations themselves. What remains unclear is when the wider case will end and whether the Manchester club will be punished, particularly with the appeal now under way.

Andrews did not suggest what action the Premier League should take or whether he agreed with the findings. He was more interested in seeing the process reach a conclusion, while acknowledging that nobody yet knows when that will happen.

"The outcome will be finalised sooner rather than later for sure. Like I've said, I think you've got to trust the authorities to come up with the right outcome and when that will be, obviously we'll find out."

The appeal will be heard independently, with the Premier League confirming that proceedings will remain confidential until the outcome can be made public.
