Mathias Jensen has been recalled to the Denmark squad, handing Brentford another international boost after the midfielder returned to the national-team picture ahead of the latest round of fixtures.

Mathias Jensen is back in the Denmark squad, giving Brentford a second representative in one of the most important international camps of the month. Denmark face North Macedonia in a single-leg World Cup play-off semi-final on March 26, and if they come through that tie they will meet either Czechia or the Republic of Ireland in a final on March 31 for a place at the 2026 World Cup.

Denmark are two matches away from reaching the World Cup, and every call-up now sits inside that bigger picture. For Jensen, the recall means a return at a time when places and trust matter most. For Brentford, it means another senior player is heading into matches with real consequence.

It also means Jensen will join Mikkel Damsgaard in the Denmark setup, giving Brentford two players in the same camp. Damsgaard had already been involved in Denmark’s plans, but Jensen’s return strengthens Brentford’s presence and gives the squad a more obvious club connection inside the national team.

There is a simple football angle to it as well. Jensen’s inclusion suggests he remains a valued option for Denmark despite strong competition in midfield. Recalls are rarely just ceremonial when a national side is preparing for knockout matches. They usually reflect either trust, form or the belief that a player can offer something specific in a short, decisive window. Denmark now have exactly that kind of window in front of them.

For Brentford, the broader significance is straightforward. International call-ups are always a marker of standing, but competitive international call-ups carry extra weight. Jensen is not just going away for a camp. He is rejoining Denmark ahead of matches that could decide whether the country reaches this summer’s World Cup.

That also adds another layer to the final stretch of Brentford’s season. The club will want Jensen and Damsgaard to return with confidence and momentum, but also in good condition after what could be two intense knockout fixtures in quick succession. That is the trade-off when players are operating at senior international level.
