Yehor Yarmoliuk has apologised on Instagram after receiving a red card for a headbutt on Jeremy Jacquet in Brentford's 2-1 defeat to Liverpool.
Brentford midfielder Yehor Yarmoliuk has issued an apology on social media after the 22-year-old received the first red card of his career in Brentford's 2-1 defeat at home to Liverpool in the Premier League.
The Ukranian international was adjudged to have headbutted Liverpool centre-back Jeremy Jacquet by referee John Brooks, who brandished the red card after being sent to the monitor by VAR shortly before half time.

The dismissal of Yarmoliuk proved incredibly costly for Keith Andrews' side, as Liverpool made the most of a second half numerical advantage to come from behind and win, with both Victor Munoz and Alexander Isak getting on the scoresheet before a second yellow card to Vitaly Janelt saw the hosts eventually forced to finish the game with nine men.
In a statement on his Instagram story, Yarmoliuk said: "I sincerely want to apologise to my teammates, the coach and our fans. I feel a huge responsibility for today's defeat and I know I have to take responsibility for my actions."
"I'm truly sorry for letting my emotions get the better of me and for receiving a red card as a result. I always give 100% on the pitch for my team. I promise to learn from this situation, reflect on my reaction and take the right lessons from it."
The red card comes at a frustrating time for Yarmoliuk, who has worked incredibly hard to take the place of club-record signing Mamadou Sangare in the Brentford midfield after a series of impressive performances, which included an excellent goal in last weekend's 2-2 draw away at Aston Villa.

A return to the Brentford squad for Yarmoliuk will likely come in three weeks time, when the Bees head to the American Express Stadium to take on high-flying Brighton & Hove Albion.
The absence of Yarmoliuk will no doubt be of great frustration to Brentford head coach Keith Andrews, for whom Yarmoliuk has been a key player in his time at the club.
Questioned on the red card in his post-match press conference, Andrews said: "I do think they [Liverpool] were cute and clever, but Yarmo needs to do better, so I can understand why it was a red."

The midfielder was officially promoted to the first team squad in 2023 and has since become a firm fan favourite during his time in West London, making 117 appearances so far for the club.
Whilst his red card will no doubt have caused a lot of anger and frustration in the fanbase as a result of the consequent defeat suffered to Liverpool, his apology and ability to take responsibility for a mistake will be greatly respected and ensure that he will no doubt receive strong support from the Brentford fans upon his eventual return from suspension.
