Exciting young Brentford talent, Yunus Konak, has signed a new contract with the club, before immediately heading out on a very exciting season long loan.
Brentford have officially announced that promising youngster, Yunus Konak, has signed a long term, five year contract with the Bees, before heading out on loan to newly promoted Championship side Lincoln City.
This will be the 20-year old's second loan spell, having spent the second half of last season on loan at Oxford United. Though they were relegated from the Championship, it was still a productive spell for Konak, who featured in 16 league games, starting in 12 of those and totalling nearly 1,000 minutes of senior men's football.
Having signed from Sivasspor in the winter of 2024, Konak is well regarded within the club, and there is hope that he will one day become a first team regular.
In terms of the loan itself, it feels like a very productive one. A number of players have had productive loan spells at Lincoln in previous years, with Brennan Johnson of Everton and Chelsea's Morgan Rogers - the most expensive English player of all time - two examples of players who have had their development fast tracked by a spell at Sincil Bank.
Last season, Lincoln were promoted to the Championship by winning the League One title with 103 points, despite barely even having a top half budget. Manager Michael Skubala subsequently departed for Bristol City, but new joint managers Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw were already part of the coaching staff last season, so that should help with continuity.
Some may be disappointed that, having been relegated with Oxford last season, Konak is going to another team tipped to go down. However, any team that gets 103 points in League One should at least be competitive, and going to Lincoln to play regularly is better than going to a mid table side and sitting on the bench.
Having started 16 games for Sivasspor in the Super Lig three years ago, the run of starts last season was the first time that the Turkey U21 international has started a senior game of any note since then, so it is crucial the same happens once again this forthcoming season, and you'd like to think that it will. There is no doubt that Brentford have consciously thought about the decision to loan him to Lincoln specifically.
The 20-year-odl could make a potential debut as early as this Saturday, with Lincoln City facing a visiting Portsmouth side who are also looking for their first win of the season.
