From Vuskovic’s defensive dominance to Diego Gomez’s wondergoal, discover how the Seagulls dismantled their rivals as supporters award near-perfect marks to Hürzeler’s clinical and relentless starting lineup.
Brighton and Hove Albion beat bitter rivals Crystal Palace 5-0 at the Amex yesterday, and emotions across the fanbase couldn't be much higher.
We wanted to wait a little longer than usual before doing our player ratings for that reason alone this time around, so just how good was it?
Full Fan Player Ratings
Starting XI:
Bart Verbruggen - 9
The Dutch goalkeeper had a fine game, without having much to do at all. The reason for the high rating is more vibes than anything else. Another clean sheet to add to a growing tally, and Verbruggen always looks stable between the sticks.
Ferdi Kadioglu - 9.2
Back to his best, the Turkish full-back had a good game on the right side. Progressing up and down the flank. Defensively sound, he's returning to his old self after a shaky start to the season.
Luka Vuskovic - 9.8
His best game for the football club. Vuskovic had everything yesterday.
Showboating, composure, and ever-dominant in the air. The Croatian defender is becoming a serious talent in the Premier League. No wonder the Seagulls went all in for the £50 million move! Jan Paul Van Hoo?
Lewis Dunk - 9.7
Often going under the radar, Dunk was very impressive. Blocking shots and keeping Albion in the game cannot be understated.
Winning against your biggest rivals in that manner demands a high rating for the Albion skipper.
Olivier Boscagli - 9.7
What an incredible player Boscagli has been so far this season.
A stark difference from last season, Boscagli has grown to be a key member of Fabian Hürzeler's side. His passing unlocked the Palace defence on multiple occasions, and it could have been much more.
Chema Andrés - 9.6
The Spaniard has established himself as a Brighton player incredibly quickly. Classy on the ball and does the simple things very well. It is hard to believe he is just 21 years old!
Chema doesn't have to steal the show to stand out; his composure and leadership have been praised by the head coach.
Yasin Ayari - 9.7
Another emphatic Ayari performance in an Albion shirt. Strong in the press and took his goal well, albeit with a deflection. Often popping up in the right place, Ayari could have scored a fair few goals, especially in the first half.
The young Swede simply needs to sign a new Albion contract!
Pascal Groß - 9.4
The GOAT, as the Albion stadium announcer kept mentioning throughout the game. Groß may not have been at his legendary best, but he still contributed to the damaging scoreline with a teasing ball early on, which was finished brilliantly by Canvot!
Diego Gomez - 9.9
The best player on the football pitch and the goalscorer of one of the greatest Amex goals that there has ever. The Paraguayan earns every moment that he gets with his emphatic tenacity, energy, and work ethic.
Nobody will be able to tell you that hard work doesn't beat talent, because Gomez is relentless proof.
Charalampos Kostoulas - 9.4
Another goal to add for our Greek rising star. Kostoulas even gave the Palace away end the wave at 3-0.
Continuing to establish himself as the go-to striker since Danny Welbeck's departure, it is incredibly exciting to see how many goals this lethal young talent could bag by the end of the season.
Maxim De Cuyper - 9
De Cuyper has grown into a magnificent player for Hürzeler. Finally being played to his strengths, the Belgian adds a lot to the left side, despite not being the traditional take-on winger. Another strong game for him in the inverted position.
SUBS:
Georginio Rutter - 8
While not having much to shout about, Georginio was somewhat effective off the bench. The Frenchman was crying out for a goal... Georgi what's the score?!
Jack Hinshelwood - 9
Another Hinshelwood appearance, another goal. Normal service resumes. Sometimes in life things feel inevitable, and perhaps Hinshelwood scoring against Palace could become just that. The Worthing-born midfielder is rapidly becoming one of the best players at the club.
84' Hinshelwood adds a fifth. Thank you very much for coming (and leaving early), Palace fans.
Michael Svoboda - 8 (N/A)
Solid. Svoboda has defied expectations by being a stable option off the bench and a possible replacement for depth in a long season. Very encouraging signs from our new Polish defender!
Joauen Hadjam - 8 (N/A)
The same thing can be said for Hadjam. This wasn't the best opportunity for him to make too much of an impact, but both are part of a historic afternoon which will live long in the memory for Albion fans, which means a high rating for the vibes!
Malick Yalcouyé - 8 (N/A)
Again, the same for Yalcouyé. The Ivorian talent will inevitably hurt Palace one day, but not that day.
