Hürzeler's football has been a joy to behold this season and is super effective against most opponents faced so far this season.
The Premier League has been shifting towards a more physical and intense style of play over the last few seasons, but it seems to have peaked at a happy medium so far this season. While this is technically the league cup, an all-Premier League tie is still an appropriate comparison!
United couldn't deal with the heavy possession and high press from Albion's midfield and forwards. The fluidity in progressing through the side has perhaps been the most exciting part of the journey.
Groß owns United?
Once again, Pascal Groß has turned up with an incredible performance to cement himself even further as an Albion legend. Eight goals against United and another potential man of the match performance.
The German general owned the pitch throughout the second half with smart through passes, governing play over the pressing and a significant goal to bring the Seagulls back within touching distance of a result.
Maxim De Cuyper scored the winning goal after a relentless run from Charalampos Kostoulas on the wing. The Greek wonderkid scored shortly before half-time to keep the game alive at 2-1.
De Cuyper, as we know, is very good at crashing the box and finishing off chances. The Belgian forward has done it again, and moving him to the winger positions has proved to be fruitful for Hürzeler's side.
As far as the debutants go, it was good to see a full start for Pascal Struijk. The former Leeds defender grew into the game well and became a significant figure at the back. Both he and Luka Vuskovic were solid at the back after a funny five minutes in the first half.
So far, so very good. We await the next round draw, but the way that Albion are playing at the moment is very encouraging.
Perhaps the style of play and inconsistencies have finally clicked, as the results are starting to follow with very good performances.
