Fabian Hürzeler welcomes back key defensive reinforcements as the Seagulls look to avenge their Etihad defeat and exploit a heavy rotation within Pep Guardiola’s star-studded squad.
Brighton and Hove Albion are set to face Manchester City again after a disappointing Etihad defeat last night. Ferdi Kadioglu is set to return after sustaining an injury at Liverpool last weekend, a major boost for Fabian Hürzeler's side.
The Seagulls actually played well for most of the night, and were arguably the better team, especially in the second half.
As we know, City will have an abundance of notable players return to the side, which could make for a much different encounter on Saturday
What is the Brighton team news?
The aforementioned Kadioglu is a notable return. The Turkish full-back went down inside the opening five minutes at Anfield last week, and many fans felt the 'here we go again' issue with Albion's injury record.
Hürzeler has confirmed that he will return, alongside Chema Andrés. The Spaniard also looked to suffer an injury last time out in the Premier League, but Albion do have the duo back available. Charalampos Kostoulas is also expected to be back in the squad.
Meanwhile, Pascal Struijk, Kaoru Mitoma, Femi Azeez, Evan Ferguson, Zadok Yohanna & Stefanos Tzimas are all still set to miss out with various issues. Perhaps the most frustrating ones from an Albion perspective here are both Struijk and Azeez, who are new summer signings with little to no game time.
We will expect to see the likes of Luka Vuskovic and Bart Verbruggen return to the starting 11 this weekend. Vuskovic has had a rather good start to his Albion career so far, playing every Premier League game alongside Lewis Dunk.
It will be interesting to see if Hürzeler rotates Pascal Groß somewhat, after the German completed another 90 minutes plus taking a penalty.
The 35-year-old has been in impressive form so far, but has simply played too many minutes. It will be important to manage his workload correctly in order to prevent an injury.
With that said, it would be interesting to see Mats Wieffer return to the midfield, with potentially Matt O'Riley, Malick Yalcouyé, or Georginio Rutter handed a start in the league. O'Riley took his penalty well in the shootout, while both Georginio and Yalcouyé scored from open play during the game. Two well-taken goals (to an extent) as a result of promising moves.
The combination of the mentioned players here may be different, but it could make sense considering the dip in form for a player like Yasin Ayari, and while managing Groß's minutes.
