Confirmed Team News: Manchester City vs Brighton
Oct 27, 2026 10:58 AM

Fabian Hürzeler navigates a burgeoning injury crisis as Yankuba Minteh nears a long-awaited return, while Manchester City consider resting key stars following their recent setback at Villa.

Brighton and Hove Albion continue a tough run of away fixtures with a double visit to the Etihad against Manchester City this week. Starting with the Carabao Cup fixture tomorrow evening, the full team news has been confirmed by Fabian Hürzeler this morning.

Is anyone back for Brighton?

Albion have struggled with squad depth options so far this season when it comes to availability of first-teamers, and similar struggles could continue this week.

Ferdi Kadioglu and Chema Andrés are both fresh problems after sustaining injuries last time out against Liverpool.

Kadioglu left the field within the opening five minutes with what appeared to be a groin/hip issue. Andrés hobbled off after a tough afternoon, and it remains unclear what his problems are at this stage.

Hürzeler explained that the Seagulls will need to be careful with Kaoru Mitoma, as he remains out alongside Pascal Struijk, Femi Azeez, Evan Ferguson, Zadok Yohanna and Stefanos Tzimas.

With that said, it isn't all bad for Albion. Yankuba Minteh and Mats Wieffer are 'potential options' for tomorrow's game. Wieffer could perhaps be the more anticipated option; surprisingly, with Kadioglu out, the Seagulls are limited for options at full-back. Costinha could continue his starts, but the Portuguese defender struggled to deal with Cody Gakpo last time out.

Minteh has missed every competitive game this season after suffering an injury during a pre-season friendly game against AS Roma. The Gambian winger has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool over the summer, and it is believed interest could be renewed in January.

Regardless of where he ends up, Minteh is currently a Brighton player and has been professional when questioned by the media.

Man City Team News:

City's team news is quite interesting.

Enzo Maresca said in his press conference that Erling Haaland, Elliot Anderson, Ruben Dias, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Josko Gvardiol were given three days off to "recover the energy" they spent in City's defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park.

From the Italian head coach's tone, it sounds like all three could miss the midweek game, in an attempt to manage their star player's fitness ahead of playing again in the same fixture on Saturday!

Geronimo Rulli will start in goal for City, with Donnarumma expected to be rested. Rulli has been a solid backup option for the hosts and won't make the game any easier for Brighton.

There could be an opportunity for Brighton to take the game to City considering the expected changes, but Hürzeler will need to be equally careful considering the rise in pressure of the Conference League, growing injury list, and current league position.
