The German tactician prioritizes Brighton’s Champions League charge over Old Trafford’s instability, choosing tactical continuity and his thriving South Coast project over a high-pressure move to Manchester.
Brighton and Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hürzeler responds to his links, as he isn't likely to make the switch to Old Trafford, as Manchester United look set to part ways with Michael Carrick.
Hürzeler himself would not reportedly be interested in the move, and realistically, who can really blame him?
Are Manchester United attractive?
Even the most delusional of United fans who still believe in the dusty magic of the 'Theatre of Dreams' must understand where they are as a football club in 2026.
Hürzeler is now in his third season down on the South Coast, and things are finally starting to click for his side.
The move doesn't seem to appeal to Hürzeler's development as a coach. Added pressure, an arguably weaker squad, and an unstable hierarchy on and off the pitch.
Captain Bruno Fernandes has continued to be vocal about United's shaky position on and off the pitch.
How has life been for Hürzeler at Brighton?
It hasn't been smooth sailing for Hürzeler at Brighton.
Many bumps in the road later, the Albion head coach finds himself courted by major clubs, competing in European competition, and sitting third in the Premier League table. Most impressively, the style of play and results have all adapted to his system remarkably well.
It all started after Brentford at the GTech last season. One win in 13, and the writing seemed to be on the wall for Hürzeler. Lose the game, and potentially lose the job too. He made brave decisions, including dropping big names like Carlos Baleba for James Milner. Stability was key, and Albion won the game 0-2.
The form continued, and the Seagulls ended the season 8th in the table, qualifying for the Conference League.
Albion kickstarted the season with a 4-0 win over Tromsø and an impressive high-pressing performance, and continued with another 4-0 first league game win against Aston Villa. An almost identical game plan, executed to perfection.
The relentless pressing gifted Albion goals, and clubs didn't know what was hitting them. Barring the Leeds United and Chelsea games, the same narrative has fit for every other club. Champions Arsenal, Palace, Coventry, and even Manchester United themselves have all lost by 3+ goals to the Seagulls already this season.
Albion also beat Sunderland away up in the North East, despite playing a fair portion of the game with 10 men. The Seagulls walked away with a 0-2 away win in a pragmatic, excellent defensive performance. It is safe to say Hürzeler has more than one game plan this season, and it's encouraging.
Considering the form this season and bumps along the road, it is fair to suggest Hürzeler is still learning life as a top-level head coach and wouldn't necessarily be ready for a 'big job' at this stage of his career.
The German head coach explained that he wanted to remain loyal to Brighton and has always shown appreciation to the club and fans for sticking by him during tough times.
A very commendable personality and a refreshing presence compared to many other managers in world football, not least those who have been at the club before!
