With a vacancy on the wing and a void in central midfield, the Seagulls must secure vital reinforcements before the window slams shut to sustain their momentum.
After a crazy summer transfer window, deadline day looms tomorrow evening, and it begs the question of how productive the Seagulls have been over the course of the last few months. Have they got enough?
What other positions are needed?
Let's take a look through the current squad depth and decide which positions will be required most before the clock strikes 11 pm tomorrow!
1) Right-winger
Perhaps this one could be answered in the form of Millwall forward Femi Azeez. The 25-year-old is attempting to force through a move before tomorrow in order to play Premier League football.
A talented young player, and a productive one too. 19 goal contributions in the Championship last season, with 11 of those being goals, and usually good ones.
Azeez is not only a good goalscorer but a scorer of good goals; some world-class strikes were recorded during his time at Millwall!
Someone who lives to entertain; it will be interesting to see if he can make the step up to Premier League level. Considering the absence of Yankuba Minteh through injury, it goes without saying that Albion need a right-sided forward. Diego Gomez has been a main starter for a little too long now!
2) Defensive midfielder
Emphasised even more after the sale of Carlos Baleba for £70 million to Manchester United and the possible absence of Yasin Ayari if he doesn't sign a new contract.
Albion have been prolific with signing young midfielders to come through and replace players, but if Mats Wieffer is a right-back, then there is no recognised 'strong' ball-winning midfielder in the squad.
Matias Orozco was signed to be this type of profile, but at only 18 years of age, he remains a few years away from being ready to play regular Premier League and UEFA Conference League football.
A new holding midfielder should almost be a priority, and it remains to be seen who that could be. I wonder if Albion will reignite their interest in Lamare Bogarde from Aston Villa?
Malick Yalcouyé has offered an option for good energy and legs in midfield but isn't a recognised ball-winning midfielder at this stage of his career. Considering his energy, he could potentially become a very effective dual winner but still lacks reasonable physical development in that regard.
Another alternative would be a world where Wiffer pivots into midfield, with the introduction of Costinha or Ferdi Kadioglu at right-back, but that doesn't seem to be an imminent plan of Fabian Hürzeler's.
