European football hangs in the balance as Brighton faces a struggling Chelsea, desperate to reverse their winless streak and impress former staff.

Albion face their modern rivals in a vital dog-fight fixture for European football at the Amex tomorrow evening. Chelsea are coming to town, along with their former Brighton man as head coach and an abundance of players and staff!

Chelsea are a team struggling at the moment. The Blues had protests against their owners 'BlueCo' outside Stamford Bridge in their last game, and it doesn't show any signs of calming down. They've lost four games in a row without even scoring a single goal in the Premier League. This is, of course, down to a variety of reasons.

It appears as though fans are struggling to get onside with Liam Rosenior. Having already sacked Enzo Maresca mid-season, Chelsea failed to bring in vital players during the January window, particularly a centre-back, to fit Rosenior's team.

With that said, they have already spent billions assembling a squad, but appear no closer to winning trophies and competing regularly in the Champions League. Players like Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella have spoken out against the owners throughout the season and wished the managerial changeover had never happened during the Premier League campaign.

Rosenior faces the tough task of a trip to his former side this week. A win for Albion would help them leapfrog Chelsea, and after a dramatic last-gasp equaliser against Spurs at the weekend, the Seagulls could have their tails up.

Brighton already beat Chelsea earlier in the season at Stamford Bridge. A strange 3-1 victory, and goals from Danny Welbeck, Maxim De Cuyoer and an inspired performance from Yankuba Minteh were enough for the three points. That game is a strange one to look back on, though. For a large portion of the game, Albion were second best, but that all changed after Trevor Chalobah was sent off for a last-man challenge.

Albion fans still love beating Chelsea. Songs like "you're just a sh*t Brighton and Hove Albion" have become a core part of the matchups, and Chelsea have continued to raid Albion for multiple players and staff. With that in mind, the club do accept these offers and calls them "our best customer", even jokingly, leaving a strange taste for most fans.

The intense backstory since 2022 continues, and this game has turned something into a rival game. João Pedro could return to his former side for the first time, and part of me still cannot hate the Brazilian for how much he gave to this club! European nights, special goals and countless memories, booing him has not been natural!

This game means a lot for both parties now. Chelsea need some inspiration; their dreadful run cannot continue if they are serious about playing in Europe next season. Many of their fans believe anything less than Champions League would be disappointing considering the spend, which would be fair.

For Albion, a win would keep the European dream more than alive. Fabian Hürzeler has become slightly more consistent with performances since switching to more 'experienced' line-ups, and chugging over the finish line could well be enough! Veteran James Milner will miss out again, though, and that could be an issue for this style of play. As we all saw at Spurs, tactically and in build-up, Albion were incredibly shaky without him.

The reluctance to use Carlos Baleba has been a baffling decision, and I'd love to see a return to the side for him.

Joël Veltman and Lewis Dunk would equally make a lot of sense. In a big game, a natural right-back who gives consistent performances would seem a sensible option, and a return to the side for the skipper would be the same.

If Kaoru Mitoma is as available as Fabian Hürzeler said he is in his press conference, and a combination of him and Minteh could be too hot to handle for Chelsea again, similarly to last season!

Georginio Rutter scored the decisive goal against Spurs, and his contributions could warrant a start. Jack Hinshelwood has struggled of late, and the Frenchman, for me, should play behind Danny Welbeck.

I'm confident, Chelsea are not in a good place, and Albion are somewhat comfortable. A win here would keep the season more than alive, and for me, I'm going bold...

Prediction: Brighton 3-1 Chelsea.
