Forgotten star Solly March could return, reigniting dreams of his dazzling wing play and unforgettable moments. A glimmer of the past awaits.
Sometimes you hear names that just throw you back to a certain time period.
Fabian Hürzeler has said that Solly March is available for the next game against Burnley at Turf Moor tomorrow.
The good old days
When you mention the name March, it is simply possible for Albion fans to not have some of their best ever club memories spring back to mind like it was yesterday.
Solly March shone during the Roberto De Zerbi days, scoring goals and showcasing the tricky wing play that we always looked forward to as fans.
For a long time, it felt like March was only ever operating at a fraction of his potential. Sometimes, that extra ounce of belief is all that a player really needs.
The winger did just that. He took over the Premier League. From someone who was struggling to take on his man, to someone every opposition defender was worried to play against. De Zerbi had created a monster; a star was born. Brighton had unlocked their very own player to be feared. Made even better? He was a local boy. At this period of time, it truly felt like nobody could touch Solly March.
His world-class performances were endless, but the game against Liverpool at home will always come to mind first. A brace, but it wasn’t just the goals. Devastating pace, and electric wing play, March had them on ropes. His quick instincts nicked him his first goal, as he jumped in front of Trent Alexander-Arnold to slot past Alisson in goal.
His iconic celebration standing on the advertising boards in front of the north stand will forever be a fan highlight. Our very own Solly March finally believed he was the man of the moment.
It wasn’t just the European chasing season either, as soon as that season ended, the 2023/24 season kicked off. March was still firing. His goal against Wolves at Molineux felt like a sign of what was to come, and the man finally had the world at his feet.
What happened next?
The fun rapidly came to an end only a couple of months later. A serious knee injury, with double damage including ACL and a meniscus. March had already had knee troubles before, and it wasn’t looking good.
Intermittent returns to the squad, and many setbacks later, time has really started to feel like it could be the end of the best of March.
All that fans can hope for is a sighting. To limit expectations and enjoy whatever form of March we’re treated to, seeing as he arrives again. One thing is for certain: we will see a determined and honest player.
My honest thought cannot see a massive return for March, but to even see him again, and a glimpse of the past, would be incredible.
Someone who knows the absolute truth in fighting to the end.
